Taste of the Deep South out west

To celebrate the people and places of Cumberland, Council has coordinated Locale; an annual arts and cultural festival that invites Sydneysiders, whether they are local or live further afield, to explore and discover new experiences.

Now in its second year, Locale has expanded its program to provide a whole lot of entertainment and adventure across even more locations between 16-25 March 2018.

One of the event highlights will be  Soul Food; a huge celebration of the best gospel and blues music from across western Sydney coming together for one day only in Cumberland, headlined by Australian blues legends Isaiah B Brunt and Pat Powell.

This musical feast will be matched with some of Sydney's best food trucks offering up a feast of southern inspired food for everyone to enjoy on Saturday 17 March at Holroyd Gardens in Merrylands.  Think ribs and wings, brisket and burgers, hot dogs and char-grilled corn sizzling on no less than 22 barbecues.

Council replaces stolen Weeping Cherry Blossom

Sad to read young Berala couple Tristan and Rebecca Kirk had recently woken to discover their Weeping Cherry Blossom  had been stolen from their front yard, Cumberland Council has replaced the tree.

"It had deep sentimental value, as it was given to us four years ago as a wedding gift - and a symbol of our love that was to grow with us," Tristan told the Auburn Review.

Mayor Greg Cummings gifted the couple with a replacement Weeping Cherry Blossom tree from Auburn Botanic Gardens; renowned for its annual Cherry Blossom Festival which last year attracted more than 90,000 people from across Sydney.

Help design Council's first Community Engagement Strategy

Council is calling on the community to help co-design Cumberland's first Community Engagement Strategy by participating in a short online survey at haveyoursay.cumberland.nsw.gov.au.

We want to know why, when and in what way you want to engage.

Ultimately the goal is that Council's plans, policies and programs better reflect the interests and concerns of the community, and that we promote sustainable decisions by recognising and communicating the needs and interests of all participants.
