It has been an exciting semester, filled with many opportunities for your student within the Division of Student Affairs. Nearly 1200 students participated in Owls Day of Gratitude, a program which allowed them to send thankful letters home to their families in November. The iLead Student Leadership Conference allowed students to discover, lead, and reflect on their leadership abilities through an assortment of individualized tracks, such as spirituality, sports leadership, leading in your career, and much more. Students also participated in the Healthy Campus Expo, a program which included dozens of vendors promoting healthy living and nutrition. And recently, the Career Expo, hosted in February,
provided students and alumni an opportunity to network with employers who have hiring needs for all industries.
We hope your student was able to attend these events, and we hope this newsletter has encouraged you to share these opportunities with your student.

Save the Date for Parent and Family Weekend 2018!
October 5-7, 2018
Parent and Family Weekend is a signature fall program at Florida Atlantic University which allows parents, family members, and friends of students at FAU to come together and experience campus life. This weekend provides you the opportunity to visit your student and take part in the engaged events and programs that involve the campus community.
Registration will launch on May 22, 2018. Space is limited, register early!

The 3rd Annual Women's Leadership Institute (WLI) has a goal of empowering women for a lifetime of leadership. WLI wants to raise awareness of critical issues women face in leadership, thus providing opportunities to transform awareness into action by empowering participants to advocate for themselves and others. Attendees will hear from amazing spotlight speakers and panel. Details for the event are below.

The end of the spring semester is quickly approaching. Move-out for students is 24 hours after their last final or May 3rd at 12 p.m., whichever comes first.
Break housing is available for residents who will be staying on-campus for summer 1 or summer 2 terms and are registered for classes and do not have an outstanding balance on their student account. Students must request break housing by April 24, 2018.
If your student will be enrolled at FAU in Fall 2018 and has not yet completed a Housing contract, there is still time to do so!

Encourage your student to be an Intern at FAU! The Career Center in partnership with FAU Housing and Residential Education welcomes students to apply to the the Career Living Community. Students in the program will have the opportunity of gaining valuable, professional experience and becoming career ready through on-campus internships while living within the same housing community. Through strategic training, development of interviewing skills, polishing of resumes, and insider tips from guest speakers, students will have a head start on the competition.

Applications for the 2018-2019 Elite Owl Leadership and Service Ambassador Team are now open. The Elite Owls are premiere student ambassadors trained in leadership and service and designed to recognize exemplary leadership at Florida Atlantic University. The Elite Owls are student facilitators at both the iLead and WeLead Student Leadership Conferences and other high level leadership and service programs at FAU.

The FAU Library provides workshops surrounding citations, literature review, and more! Encourage your student to participate in these workshops if they are seeking support in these areas.

University Advising Services (UAS) helps your student develop and implement an academic plan for success at FAU. Our advising program is based on the Appreciative Advising model, which is the intentional practice of asking positive, open-ended questions that help students optimize their educational experience and achieve their DREAMS, DESIGN a plan to achieve those dreams, and make necessary changes to ACHIEVE their goals. The advisee and advisor are partners, and below are a few tips on how you can be an APPRECIATIVE PARTNER with your FAU student.

Advance registration for Summer/Fall 2018 is around the corner, and it is helpful to discuss the importance of Academic Advisors with your student. "Academic Advisors help students with their academic plans and decisions. In high school, your student was assigned a school counselor for assistance with course selection and college preparation In college, it is the Academic Advisor who provides guidance regarding course selection and academic planning. Most colleges have Advisors who work with "undeclared" students, and Departmental Advisors for students with declared majors. Students should schedule an appointment with their Academic Advisor several months prior to each semester's class registration period. Academic offerings and requirements change constantly and can be confusing, so it is essential that your student meet regularly with their Academic Advisor."
