PASSING OF DR. GEORGE FARAH
March 27, 1932 - September 17th, 2020
Chicago Medical Society member Dr. George Salim Farah, passed away Thursday, September 17th in La Jolla, California at the age of 88. Dr. Farah touched many with his joyful personality and positive outlook on life. His smile lit up a room and his storytelling of traveling adventures captured the attention of many. His motto was "It's a Wonderful World," and he lived that way everyday.
Dr. Farah was known for producing colorful watercolor calendars every year and distributing them among colleagues and staff. He also painted cover artwork for Chicago Medicine magazine. Dr. Farah served on the CMS Council for a number of years and chaired the Physician Art Committee.
Dr. Farah was born in Beirut, Lebanon, and studied medicine at the University of Lyon in France. After completing medical school, he followed his dreams and traveled to America by boat to be near his sister. He interned for his medical degree at Saint Clare's Hospital in New York City. He ended his career at Saint Joseph Hospital in Chicago. Dr. Farah was proud of his medical career and helping patients in need, even when they couldn't afford it.
