Sacramento Kings 102 v. New York Knicks 99

The next home opponent for the Golden State Warriors are the New York Knicks on Tuesday evening, and the Knickerbockers plied their trade against the Sacramento Kings Sunday evening in Sacramento. Their results were not to their liking, as their hosts drilled a three-pointer as the game clock expired for a 102-99 Kings win. Strong Like Bull Training Camp -- Andalusia, Spain
|
The many olive groves and rolling terrain makes for wonderful cycling in Antequera, Spain.
* * * * *
Being a professional photographer has its perks: I meet interesting subjects, travel to
far out places and it's always a new adventure.
Last week I found myself in southern Spain at the Strong Like Bull Training Camp.
Since 2006, Strong Like Bull Training Camps (
www.stronglikebulltraining.com
) has brought together athletes from all over the world to share in the experience of training on challenging mountains, while being encouraged by the awesomeness of this place. With a community spirit, a health food chef, pro athletes and other supportive athletes, you have a one-of-a-kind community of people who are mixing getting fit with a grand adventure. Add in sunshine and warmth, while most of the Northern Hemisphere is frozen and cold, and you have the best trip with a bike you can find.
Andalusia, Spain is steeped in myth and magic. 5000-year-old Iberian temples, 1200-year-old Roman arches, the 600-year-old Moorish Alhambra Palace, 300-year-old Catholic cathedrals; Spain's rich history and culture make pushing pedals here part-training and
part-ride through living history. Equal to all of that is the natural wonder and breathtaking landscape of the area, from dramatic mountains to endless green fields.
This is one of the most sublime places on earth.

The Stanford Cardinal hosted the Golden Bears in the Big Splash water polo match on Sunday evening, Mar. 4, at Avery Aquatic Park. The contest featured No. 1 Stanford taking on the No. 4 Golden Bears. Tied at the end of regulation, sudden-death overtime came into play and Cal pulled out an 8-7 victory. Saint Mary's Gaels 78 v. UC Davis Aggies 0
|
Top-ranked Saint Mary's Gaels hosted the D2 UC Davis Aggies at their home stadium in Moraga on Saturday, March 4, and treated the visitors to a sound 78-0 whipping. Saint Mary's showed they were prepared by having both wings score in the first 10 minutes using recycled ball and allowing the wings to set the stage for the day. There was a spectacular hail storm during the 40 minutes, from the middle of the first half until the middle of the second. Despite the distraction, the Gaels kept relentless pressure on the Aggies with their stifling defense and domination of the scrums and line outs to book a decisive win. Jordan Bruno did a good job dealing with the weather and mismatched teams playing different styles of rugby. Above, Saint Mary's wing Charlie Loudon was fed the ball and dashed through the fractured defense to score the second try under the posts. Caption and photo by Austin Brewin. |

As the hail pored down, the Saint Mary's forwards swarmed to smother the Aggies' attack.

Flyhallf Mike Malone scored a spectacular try in two inches of water at the end of the first half. This, in the corner, was converted by the try scorer to bring the score to 38-0 at the half. Sonoma Raceway -- Shell Eco-Marathon, Ultra Energy-Efficient Competition
Shell, in conjunction with Sonoma Raceway and Speedway Motorsports Inc., will welcome student teams from up to 100 high schools and universities across North and South America to Make the Future California featuring Shell Eco-marathon Americas, April 19-22, 2018. For the past 11 years, students competing in the Shell Eco-marathon Americas have designed, built and tested ultra-energy-efficient vehicles, with some achieving more than 3,500 miles per gallon. 2018 marks the 12th edition of Shell Eco-marathon in the Americas and the return to California where the first Shell Eco-marathon Americas student challenge took place in 2007, with less than 20 teams competing on the inside track of the California Speedway in Fontana. Today, more than 1,000 student-participants from across the Americas have worked for months to plan and construct their ultra-energy-efficient vehicles. By maximizing elements such as streamlined design, lightweight materials and driving strategy, teams aim to set new fuel efficiency records in two Shell Eco-marathon competitions at the iconic Sonoma Raceway in April.

Houston Astros To Visit The White House (History Of These Visits)
|
The
Houston Astros have accepted an invitation from President Donald Trump to visit the White House on Monday, March 12.
Astros defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in a very exciting seven-game World Series to win their first title ever. The team first began with the name Colt .45s in 1962 and later changed their name to the Houston Astros in 1965, when they began playing in the Astrodome. In 2013 the Astros moved from the National League to the American League.
The previous World Champion Chicago Cubs (2016) visited the White House, by invitation of President Trump, in June of 2017.
Recent visits from other sports: In October of 2017 the 2016 Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins visited the White House and in April of 2017, President Trump hosted the New England Patriots, the Super Bowl champion. The NBA champion Golden State Warriors did not attend last week, declining the invitation after winning the NBA title last season.
The first known official team meeting between a president and an organized baseball team at the White House was on August 30, 1865, when President Andrew Johnson met the Washington Nationals and the Brooklyn Atlantics. The Atlantics won the title of the National Association of Baseball Players. In 1924 the Washington Senators were the first professional baseball team to visit the White House, hosted by President Calvin Coolidge.
As far as the other three main sports: the NBA was founded in 1946. In 1963 the Boston Celtics became the first NBA champion to visit the White House, upon an invitation from President John F. Kennedy, a Massachusetts native. The NFL was founded in 1920. The Pittsburgh Steelers were the first Super Bowl champions to visit in 1980, when Jimmy Carter was president. The NHL was founded in 1917. The Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins broke the ice for the NHL as guests of President George H. W. Bush and were the first NHL team to visit the White House.
Baseball teams were the first to accept invitations to the White House, and since then, it has become an American tradition. The protocol is for the White House to extend an invitation to a team, usually to a champion. The team can accept or decline or the White House can also cancel a team visit for any reason and do not have to explain why. The White House can also re-schedule a visit.
In the past, teams have accepted and visited but some members of those teams have decided not to go. It is usually left as an individual decision, and that is the way it should be. Nobody should be forced to attend or feel pressure not to attend. Athletes are also protected by the First Amendment. After all, we're still a country made up of individuals, not groups, at least not until the robots take over.
Is it that important? Not at all, more symbolic, and in good sportsmanship more than anything else, and nobody should lose any sleep over it. I sure don't. It is like throwing the ceremonial First Pitch at a baseball game, or playing or singing the National Anthem prior to a sporting event. It is just another photo-op.
It is said that President Abraham Lincoln's 1863 clemency to a turkey, recorded in an 1865 dispatch by Washington reporter Noah Brooks, was the origin for the pardoning ceremony. This might be the oldest ceremonial tradition at the White House. To this day, no turkey has demonstrated against the pardon.
Oakland A's play-by-play announcer Amaury Pi-Gonzalez is now entering his 24th season as the Voice of the A's for all Spanish broadcasts. For a sixth straight year, Pi-Gonzalez will also do selected games for the Los Angeles Angels on Fox Sports Network West in Southern California. Cox had wrestled in one weight class below all season but stepped up to the 152 lb class lately to beat the top EBAL seed. Photo credit: SportStars Magazine. |
