letter

This is an exciting week for the Virginia Wine industry. Governor Ralph Northam presented the Virginia Wineries Association 2018 Governor's Cup to King Family Vineyards in Crozet for their 2014 Meritage. Eleven other wineries joined the Governor's Cup Case. The February 27 event was held in Richmond at the Main Street Station. Frank Britt was honored posthumously as the Wine Person of the Year and Lucie Morton was recognized for Lifetime Achievement.

Our Festivals of the Week include the Virginia Wine Expo which got underway in Richmond on Tuesday and continues through Sunday. At the end of the month on March 31, the Hops, Wines & Swines Festival is on tap at the Olde Dominion Agricultural Complex in Chatham.

Spring is in the air and that signals the reopening of winery tasting rooms and wine events moving into high gear. Check out
March Events as you plan your weekend travels.

Cheers!

FRANK BRITT NAMED WINE PERSON OF THE YEAR

Frank Britt, Lynchburg businessman and publisher of the online publication, Official Virginia Wine Lover, was honored as Virginia Wine Person of the Year by the Virginia Wineries Association.   Frank died in May 2017, and June Britt accepted the award on behalf of her husband at the Governor's Cup Gala on February 27.

With the growth of the Virginia wine industry, Frank recognized an opportunity to expand the offerings of Britt Marketing and to build exposure for Virginia wines.  It was 2005 and the first Official Virginia Wine Lover on-line newsletter was published that spring.  Now in its 13th year, the newsletter reaches some 50,000 subscribers with news about all things wine in Virginia.
