In tribute to Mrs. Chaiya Drabkin A"H, we at Bais Yaakov Elementary share a few thoughts that should serve as an aliyah for her Neshama. She was a music teacher par excellence here in Bais Yaakov who taught children that with hard work, practice and dedication - you can achieve success. Her motto was "Slow Practice = Fast Success". This was not only restricted to music, but to all endeavors in life. In less than six months, girls in fifth grade would be taught to play the recorder and could shine in a recital in front of parents and grandparents.
Mrs. Drabkin had a smile for everyone and was respected by all who came in contact with her. She had the unique ability to inspire excellence with an encouraging word and make you feel "we can do this". Mrs. Drabkin was a woman of accomplishments and gave of herself to others to take care of their needs. She wanted our students to develop their skills, but she also wanted them to reach for the stars and be the best they could be.

THIRD GRADE FOCUS
Morah Stein's 3rd Grade class performed a lovely song and dance on the
achdus of Klal Yisroel. The girls taught us how we all do better when we recognize that Hashem created a Tapestry of Grandeur by melding so many beautiful qualities into the world and
Klal Yisroel. This performance was a part of the popular school-wide program
Ashreinu: How fortunate we are to be Yidden. Both Lower and Upper Elementary Divisions join together each month to highlight elements of the treasure we have, to be part of the Jewish Nation - the
Am Segula.
FOURTH GRADE FOCUS
The
4th Grade has started a unit about settling the West of America. They began by learning about claiming homesteads. Each student wrote an application to stake a claim in the unsettled area of the country and received a certificate of approval from our Manifest Destiny Approval Board! Stay tuned for future developments of this exciting trip westward, as the fourth graders read ahead in the next few weeks about this fascinating part of American History!
FIFTH GRADE FOCUS
The
Fifth Grade completed their first novel of the year -
The Phantom Tollbooth, by Norton Juster. Our classes engaged with many creative projects and assemblies that made this classic children's tale come to life. It was exciting to walk down the hall with Dodecahedrons, posters and projects, bringing the captivating scenes from the book to life. Among the highlights of the girls' learning were the baking activities where they concocted Cinnamon Synonym Buns and Half Baked Idea Cupcakes! We thank
