New Website!

I am pleased to announce the launch of our new website!  And...we've also shortened our domain name to UCHBG (UCHBG.org).  Don't worry if your browser (history) sends you to our former domain names (HarrisburgUU.org/HarrisburgUU.com) as we will automagically redirect your browser to our new site.

Special thanks to Casey Keene for being so generous with her time and efforts to make sure we had a solid organizational structure and ensuring we had the content needed to launch the site. And to John Hope for talking with each lay-led group leader and writing up all their information for our site. Your time and talents are greatly appreciated. I couldn't have asked for a better team to work with and would have never been able to complete this project without your help.

Please Note: We still have a ways to go with the new site and will be adding new content and a lot more over the next few months, so please check back often for updates. Thank you for your patience as we continue to grow our site.

The Auction Planning Committee meets the 4th Tuesday of each month in the Priestley Room at Clover Lane.

Come brainstorm ideas, themes and be a part of the fun, food, and fabulous Auction Committee. Your talent and help planning the 2018 All-Church Auction is always welcome. We are looking for ideas to make this year's auction a huge success and need your help. Please contact Patti Hazell for additional information.
Adult OWL

Adult OWL (Our Whole Lives) begins Sunday, January 21st. We have a few spots left and we'd love to have you join us!

Where: Clover Lane
When: 1:15-3:45pm, seven Sundays from January 21 through March 11, not 2/25

Our Whole Lives (OWL) values:
  • Self Worth
  • Sexual Health
  • Responsibility
  • Justice and Inclusivity
OWL models and teaches caring, compassion, respect, and justice. It helps adults address their attitudes, values, and feelings about themselves, their sexuality, and others sexuality. Participants are guided by trained facilitators through an engaging program that addresses topics many adults have not had the opportunity to discuss in depth.

Here are the workshop topics:

- Introduction to OWL
- Sexuality and Values
- Sexuality and Communication
- Sexuality and Spirituality
- Discovering the Sexual Self
- Experiencing the Sexual Other
- Sexuality and Early Relationships
- Sexuality and Developing Relationships
- Sexuality and Committed Relationships
- Sexual Diversity
- Sexuality and Family
- Sexuality and Aging
- Sexual Health
- Closing Session

To Register: Click here, email our DRE, Sara Palmer or call/text at 717-579-2026.

We are called as Unitarian Universalists to search for truth, meaning, and increased respect and worth for all living beings. OWL is a life-changing way to live our faith, but adults do not have to be members of UCH to participate. Sign up with a friend!  Any questions? Contact Sara at the links above.
Worship Visioning Potluck/Workshop
January 31 @ 6 pm (Clover Lane)

What is the purpose of UU worship? What are your hopes for the future worship life of the church? How do we welcome the stranger? How do we build bridges and celebrate community through our worship ministries? What comforts us? What challenges us to spiritual growth?

Please join the Worship Team to discuss these questions and more at a potluck and visioning meeting as we begin planning for March-May. This will occur on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at Clover Lane. Please bring a dish to share to the Common Room for a 6:00 p.m. meal, followed by a 7:00 p.m. workshop in the sanctuary. The event is open to UCH members and friends. Rev. Lyn will facilitate. Please contact David Spear for further information.

Celebrate the Future
Stewardship Potluck
February 9 @ 6 pm (Clover Lane)

Share a meal, share your pride in all that UCH has accomplished together, and share your hopes for UCH's next chapter! We'll celebrate the congregation in story, song, and just a little bit of silliness. Attendees will get the first look at this year's Stewardship brochure.
The future is just around the corner; come and be a part of it!
We March. We Act.
Action of the Week

Contact your PA legislators
to tell them that voting should be more accessible to more Pennsylvanians.  Here are a couple of bills that would do this.
If you want to be added to the We March. We Act. email list, please contact Wendy Shaver.
Daring Democracy
UUA Common Read & Author Visit

The UUA Common Read Selection Committee has chosen Daring Democracy as one of the 2017-18 Common Reads. The challenges, the call, and the opportunity of this moment in Unitarian Universalism and in the broader US American society are compelling. We must be prepared and willing to look outward and act to lift up Unitarian Universalist values in the political and civic challenges of our time.

Daring Democracy: Igniting Power, Meaning, and Connection for the America We Want, by Frances Moore Lappé and Adam Eichen, examines the anti-democracy movement that has led to the Trump presidency, then offers a vision and call to action to save our democracy and to take our civic life to a place it has never been.

Mark your calendars! The co-author of Daring Democracy, Adam Eichen, will speak at UCH on March 6, 2018. You will not want to miss his presentation. Copies of Daring Democracy will be on sale for $10. at coffee hour each Sunday from now until February 11th.

Contact Anita Mentzer or Rachel Mark for more information.

Volunteer & Community Engagement Fair

The annual Volunteer Fair will be held Sunday, February 4th at Market Street and Sunday, February 11th at Clover Lane following services.

The Fair is a fun way to find out what all is going on and how you can be a bigger part of the action.
Share the Plate
January 2018

January's Share the Plate partner is a UUA funding campaign called, "The Promise and the Practice." Congregations are asked to learn about the broken promises of the past, to recognize the promise in UU lay and professional leaders who are People of Color and to support them, and to promise and practice a new commitment to dismantling white supremacy in our UU congregations and faith movement. "The Promise and the Practice" is a learning and spiritual growth opportunity, and it is also a fundraising opportunity to fulfill a commitment made by our Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations to Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism (Black Lives of UU or BLUU). See The Reporter for more information.
