February 2018 Newsletter
From the director...

To address your concerns and requests for designated quiet space, we have applied for NYS Construction Grant funding to assist with the creation of a new quiet study space to be carved from the current staff workroom.  This is part of a series of projects that also includes the parking lot expansion, a reduced but more efficient staff work space, and LED-efficient lighting upgrades throughout the building. These projects will cost $312,360, and will be 35% funded by the NYS grant.  The remainder will be covered by capital project funds we have saved for building upgrades.

The newly created quiet space will be enclosed and furnished to accommodate a variety of activities for the public.  It will be equipped with two tables, eight comfortable seating chairs and enhanced lighting, and can be used as an alternate private meeting room space for when the large community room is booked or too large for your needs. It can also serve as a quiet study space for personal work, research and educational pursuits; a tutoring space and a quiet reading room.
The entire construction project should take 2-3 weeks and will be primarily contained within the walls of the staff workroom.  Noise and disruption will be kept to a minimum, but there will be a couple of days when the noise level may be disruptive. During this period, the library will be offering limited programming, as the staff will be temporarily relocated to the community room.   We ask for your understanding and patience, knowing that the positive changes you have been requesting are on the immediate horizon!

"Baby, it's cold outside!"
During the cold winter months of December to March, the library's Youth Services department is encouraging library members to keep someone warm by making or donating new winter hats, scarves and mittens to those in need. We have hat and scarf looms available to check out for a fun project at home - just add your favorite yarn. When you're finished, we'll collect and then donate those items to a local charity. What a great way to spend a snowy day!
The library is, once again, partnering with the Cornwall Presbyterian Church for Operation Gratitude. Through February 7, we are collecting travel-sized only items to send to our service men and women. A bin is located in our lobby for dropping off items.  Families can also pen thank you cards to the troops at our Winter Blast on February 3. Please consult the lobby bin or our website to see which items are appropriate to donate.
