Support Winter Fest this Weekend!
Join Healthy Island Project for its 13th annual Winterfest! Thursday through Saturday, January 18- 20th. Events span a number of days and a number of venues including Island Community Center, Deer Isle-Stonington Elementary School, Island Family Medicine, Reach Performing Arts Center auditorium, and Stonington Opera House.
All events are free!
Of Special Note:
As part of Winter Fest activities this weekend there will be a Window Dresser table in the DISES gym from 10am to 2pm. It will be an opportunity to explain the project and demonstrate how the insulating inserts are put together.. Come spend a little time at the table before or after you check out the other attractions, including the delicious lunch that Edible Island is serving!

St. Brendan's Flower Fund
For the past several weeks we have been enjoying the beautiful wreaths and poinsettias that have graced our church. These were given by anonymous donors. We extend our gratitude to these donors, as well as to other members of our congregation who have provided flowers this past year either through a purchase or by bringing flowers from their gardens.
Did you know that St. Brendan's has a Flower Fund? You can contribute to this fund at any time. If you would like to give flowers in memory of someone or in thanksgiving for a special life event (birthday, anniversary, anniversary of death, etc.), please contact Liz Alley in the office ([email protected] or 374-6240). Please tell Liz when you would like flowers for the altar and who they are in memory of or in thanksgiving for.

Scripture Notes for the Third Sunday After Epiphany:
Today we continue the seasonal theme of Jesus' manifestation
("epiphany") as the Son of God. John the Baptist's arrest ended his ministry and now Jesus
returns to Galilee and begins his public ministry with the call to repent and the calling of his first
disciples. Thus, he announced that in him God's Kingdom has been initiated.
The Old Testament reading is Jonah's proclamation of judgment on the city of Nineveh. The city
repents and God's punishment is averted.
We continue to read a portion of 1 Corinthians as we do each Epiphany season.
The Church is to
live at all times as though the end is near, which Paul believed it was.
The Kingdom of God is
near and we should conform our lives to the urgency
of the moment. Many Christians may feel
that these words should not be treated
as an absolute rule in light of the fact that the end did not
come immediately, as
Paul had first thought it would. Nevertheless, his underlying principle does
apply: live always in preparation for the end.
We celebrate in the community of faith as those living in the in-between times. We are at once
the disciples of the Lord and his Body in the world and yet sinners who are called to repent. We
celebrate Eucharist remembering his death and proclaiming his resurrection, while also looking
for his coming again.

In Our Prayers
We pray for those on our prayer list suffering and recovering from illnesses especially Rev. Edward Dufresne, William Rice Sr., Elaine Graham, Patricia P,
Pat Stoneburner, Tony Stoneburner, Kathy Gray, Holly, Carolyn Angel, Colin MacNaught, Nancy Stearns, Andrew Harriman, Tom Davenport, Hannah Scaife, Marcia Scott, Sen. John McCain, Henry 'Hank' Millon, Jennifer Hulsey and her family Byron, Ben, and Claire. We pray, also, for those who love and care for them.
We pray for those struggling with addiction and mental illness.
We pray for all those receiving care through Neighbor Care and for all the residents of the Island Nursing Home, the Northern Bay Residential Facility,
and their families.
We pray for the dying, and those who have died. We remember also those who mourn.
We pray for the victims of gun violence-in our cities and towns, in our schools, in our places of worship, and in our homes.
We pray for the victims of the violence of armed conflicts around the world. We pray for those made refugees by the violence of armed conflicts. We pray for the victims of terrorist attacks everywhere.
We pray for all who suffer the effects of domestic violence and the violence
of bullying in our schools.
We pray for all peacemakers, and all those who work for justice.
We pray for all those serving in the armed forces of our country, remembering, especially, Craig, Chris, Graham, and Caleb.
We pray for all who govern, and we pray for the concerns of our local community, remembering, especially, our children, our young people, and our isolated elderly.
We pray for Justin, Archbishop of Canterbury; Suheil, Bishop of Jerusalem; Michael, our Presiding Bishop; Steve, our Bishop; for the members of our vestry; and for all our members, whose ministries are varied and far-reaching.
In the Diocesan Cycle of Prayer, we pray for
the congregations of St. Thomas', Camden and St. Peter's, Rockland.
In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, we pray for
The Anglican Church of Australia.
On the Island and Peninsula,
we pray for Brooksville United Methodist Church.
