A NATIONAL MAGNET SCHOOL OF DISTINCTION!
Just below you will find a snapshot of the press release that went out regarding this impressive recognition that I know all members of our school community will be very proud of. The press release explains what it took to achieve this success, but something I know for certain. Without our wonderful students, a group of educators that give it their very best each and every day, a seemingly tireless support staff, a dynamic PTA, a set of invaluable business partners, and of course, being part of a top U.S. school district like OCPS, we would not have made it. To everyone I say thank you and please take bow.
This was a community effort that we can all be proud of!
Parent Survey Closes Soon
If you have a child attending Tildenville, please take a few minutes very soon and give us your honest feedback. All responses are kept anonymous. Thank you for your help.
Annual Testing Begins Tuesday, March 6
Below you will find our testing schedule beginning with our 4th and 5th grade Tigers taking the Writing portion of the FSA (Florida Standards Assessments). Please take careful note of these testing dates.
I hope this finds your March off to a terrific start and thank you so much for looking over our progress. Make it a great week!

TALENT IS OVERRATED
Dr. Benjamin Bloom of the University of Chicago conducted a five-year study of leading artists, athletes, and scholars. It consisted of anonymous interviews with the top twenty performers in various fields, including pianists, Olympic swimmers, tennis players, sculptors, mathematicians, and neurologists. That information was supplemented with additional interviews with those people's families and teachers. Bloom and his team of researchers sought to find clues to how these high achievers developed.
What they discovered was that drive and determination - not talent - led to their success.

* Teacher of the Month is second grade teacher Kay Black! Congratulations!
Mrs. Black (left) and Mrs. Ross
Ms. Alvarez,
My name is Kristie Greenberg, and my son Jacoby is a student in Mrs. Black's second grade class. I often feel like, parents probably only contact you to complain - but I want to take a moment and praise the heart of this teacher. My son is challenging, to say the least. I have three children - 18, 14, and 7. And Jacoby, well - he is my wild one. But throughout my children's academic career - all of them combined - I have never met such an amazing teacher. It is apparent, that Mrs. Black loves these students. She is patient, kind, and she really stays in great contact. Every time I have emailed her, she responds super quick. She has called me when I have asked. She has given me ideas, new structures, to help be a great parent to Jacoby.
This was our first year at Tildenville Elementary school - and I have been shocked and amazed at what an amazing place it is. All I can say is, I do believe that God orchestrated the location of our home, and the placement of my child her class. And just for the record, my kids have had over 26 teachers between them, and this is the first letter I have ever written. Please know, this is sincere and from the heart. And I appreciate everything. This woman has changed my child's behavior for the better - and has taught me how to parent a strong willed child. And she is spot on. I am forever grateful.
~ Kristie Greenberg

Arrival & Dismissal
As our school population continues to grow, it is becoming increasingly important to be watchful as you navigate through the parking lot at arrival and dismissal. Cautiously following the traffic flow, not blocking walkways, vigilant of speed limit and watching for direction for school personnel maintains the security of pedestrians and drivers alike. Most importantly, ensure that patrols are safely on the sidewalk before moving your car forward. Limiting cell phone use ensures that everyone can remain alert during this short time on campus.
Thank you for your cooperation.

Student Safety
New stop sign going up

Tigers in the Garden
Tildenville's special student garden
Thank you to this awesome group of parents for all that you do for our Tigers in the garden. This group of awesome parents lead the morning garden club twice a week. They do research to help our teachers use the garden effectively. They provide our teachers with support on which plants to grow, how to care for them and when to harvest.
The garden is in full bloom headed into March!

i-Ready Program
What does the i-Ready data show?
Mid year Reading iReady data has been broken down and gone over thoroughly be teachers and students. We use this data to determine how individual students will perform on the FSA assessments in March-May. Student's individual i-Ready scores that were shared during the winter parent-teacher conferences correlate highly with students FSA levels in grades 3-5.
How can you help at home?
- Have students work on math i-Ready at home. Ten (10) minutes a day will help your child tremendously in all grade levels.
- Encourage your child to attend the computer lab morning club to complete lesson in reading or math on i-Ready.
- If your child is struggling in a particular area, ask your child's teacher to add additional lessons on that skill to practice at home.
- Track their progress with them by clicking on "My Progress" in the top right hand corner of their homepage.

Accelerated Reader
AR has begun! Students are checking out books on their levels and taking quizzes in their classrooms or during the morning computer lab time (morning clubs). We have a group of parents and our new media specialist
Elka Archbold working hard to label all books in the media center as well as create prize charts and organize those items. If you would like to help please email
[email protected] to make arrangements. Please make sure you have filled out and have been cleared through
ADDitions.
