Trash-Seeking Robot
An autonomous system that can recognize and collect litter was recognized with a Dean's Choice Award at the Samueli School of Engineering 2017 Winter Design Review. The Garbage Processing Unit (GPU), created by electrical engineering students Steve Cho and Michael Wegner, along with computer science student Takahiro Ishikawa, utilizes a camera to see its surrounding environment and tank treads for mobility. The team was mentored by CALIT2 research specialist Linyi Xia.
