Dominion Waiver Goes Green!

Fredericksburg Dominion Waiver is now recycling their bottles, cans, and plastic containers, all thanks to our very special friend, Siehda Harris. Siehda joined our program in October, and noticed that we were not recycling. She is now leading up our recycling program by making it her task to encourage her friends to recycle.

Siehda was supported with making a spot in the kitchen for all of the recyclable items.  Once a week she leads up an outing with her peers to go to County Waste & Recycle and dispose of the items collected in a "greener" fashion. In the spring, Siehda and her friends plan to visit the local recycling center to learn more about what happens to the materials that they save from going into our landfills.

Siehda expressed her enthusiasm for Dominion Waiver by saying, "I like this day program and my staff. They are respectful to me and I can talk to them when I am upset and they will never bring me down."

First Fredericksburg Fall Fest a Success!
In November Fredericksburg enjoyed their first Fall Festival. During the event they played pumpkin ring toss, corn hole, and pin the spider on the web.

They also enjoyed a face painting, photo and tattoo booth, while dancing the evening away with their friends.

Jolly Holidays in Richmond!

This time around, our friends visited some new places and took on some new adventures. They went to Dave & Busters, the Manassas Mall, a Christmas party hosted by the ARC in Richmond, Maymont, the Civil War Museum, the Marine Corps Museum in Quantico, and many other places.

We have also been busy with volunteering opportunities at the YMCA, SPCA, Spotswood Baptist, Habitat for Humanity, the local food pantry, and just recently with the Thurman Brisben Center.

Through volunteering our friends have the chance to give back to their community while also learning and enhancing job skills along the way.

Congrats to Promoted Employees!

Promoted employees

Saundra Ward, Operational Manager
Saundra started her career with Dominion when our Fredericksburg location first opened its doors in the summer of 2015. With her extensive background in the field she quickly settled into a position as a Direct Support Professional. The following February, she joined the team as a Service Coordinator and moved up to senior status in a little over a year. Today, I'd like to congratulate her in her new position as DWS's Operational Manager. Saundra will be working with all Waiver localities to stream line our processes, create new programs and keep our ship sailing smoothly.

Abbey Warren, Lead Counselor
Abbey started with Dominion, in September 2016, as an In Home counselor. Once Fredericksburg area's Group Day center opened, she came in as a full time DSP, leading the way in our Community Engagement program. In December she was given the opportunity to expand her passion with securing a leadership position.
