MEET YOUR NOMINEES
for election at the 2018 Annual Parish Meeting
on Sunday, January 21, 2018,
to serve a four-year term on the Ascension Vestry.
The Nominating Committee has presented a slate of five eligible candidates for the Vestry. They are: Laura Buffenmyer, Ginni Fox, Ron Gruzesky, Scott Kimbel, and Shannon Lancaster.
Of the five nominees, only FOUR will be elected. Each eligible voter* is asked to vote for four people. Candidates are listed alphabetically by last name.

LAURA BUFFENMYER
is the Human Resources Director at Everyday Matters, LLC. She has been a communicant at Ascension since 2012, and usually attends the 10:30 service.
Laura has served on the Altar Guild and as an usher at the 10:30 service since 2013. Since 2015, she has been a Lector, and a leader for Godly Play (Christian Formation classes for our youngest). In 2016 and 2017, she also taught Ascension’s Vacation Bible School classes at Stewart Home School. In the community, she currently serves as Treasurer of the WHHS Choral Boosters, the WHHS Volleyball Boosters Club, and Project Graduation. A past member and officer of Bluegrass Parents of Twins and Multiples Club, she is the mother of MacKenzie and Reagan Napier.
Laura says, “My life is filled with being a wife and mother. I love being part of the parish family at Ascension, and I would be honored to serve on the vestry.”

Ginni currently serves on the Finance and Endowment Committees, and as the Chair of the Capital Campaign. She was a member of Ascension’s choir from 2012-2017. She also serves on the board of Midway University, and as Treasurer of the Clark Foundation.
Ginni says, “I believe strongly in the mission of the Church of the Ascension, and hold the clergy, staff and members in high esteem. I enjoy serving with them to live into our Baptismal Covenant.”

RON GRUZESKY
is an engineer. He has been a communicant at Ascension since 2015, and usually attends the 10:30 service.
Ron served for three years on the Vestry at St. Raphael in Lexington. He serves at Ascension as a chalice bearer and lector. In the community, he is a routine volunteer with “Un-Shackled by Love Ministries,” an organization that cares for women leaving the sex industry.

SCOTT KIMBEL
is retired. He has been a communicant at Ascension since 2014. He usually attends the 10:30 service, and often serves as an Usher. He also attends Tuesday night’s silent prayer and Saturday’s Taizé services, and he is a member of Ascension’s Benedictine Cell.
Scott says he would like to be a part of the vestry’s ongoing good work!

ELIZABETH ‘SHANNON’ LANCASTER
has worked at the Occupation Labor cabinet of Kentucky state government for 23 years. She is a lifelong member of Ascension, and usually attends the 10:30 service.
Shannon currently serves Ascension as a Chalice Bearer, Lector, and also as a Counter for the Sunday offering. In the past she has served on the Diocesan Youth Board and the Diocesan Camp and Conference Board. She also served a five-year term on Ascension’s vestry during a rector search.
Shannon says, “Growing the church is fundamental. We have to understand why families leave and what more we have to offer to the community.”

The Constitution & Canons of the Episcopal Diocese of Lexington, Revised & Updated February 2011:
Qualified Vestry candidates shall be those who are confirmed communicants in good standing of the age of sixteen years or older. (17.03a) Qualified voters at a parish meeting shall be (a) all those who are confirmed communicants in good standing of the age of sixteen years or older, and (b) any other baptized persons of such age who are regular worshipers in the parish and who for six months immediately preceding the meeting have been regular contributors to the support of the parish. (17.04)

Communicants in good standing: All communicants of this Church who for the previous year have been faithful in corporate worship, unless for good cause prevented, and have been faithful in working, praying, and giving for the spread of the Kingdom of God, are to be considered communicants in good standing.
