Sunday, January 21
                                             Worship 10:00 am

Have you ever had an epiphany -- a moment when an event or a discovery changed everything? This week we hear Jesus call the first disciples, which was certainly a life-changing event, not just in their lives, but for everyone who knew and loved them. Join us as we worship God and seek to better understand God's claim on our lives.

Please consider helping out on Sunday mornings! We need weekly ushers, greeters, and flower  sponsors, and monthly communion servers. To sign up,  Click here  and  enter your name where you wish to serve.

Bulletins are posted at CovenantWeb.org/read/listenwhere you can also read or listen to sermons. Printed sermons now include the pastoral prayer.

The choral anthems in this week's service reflect on the "good news" as proclaimed in the Gospel reading from Mark 1. Felix Mendelssohn completed the oratorio St. Paul in 1836, from which the anthem "How Lovely Are the Messengers" is taken. Alabama native, William Dawson taught at the Tuskegee Institute from 1931-1951 and published numerous choral settings of African-American spirituals, many of which have become standard repertoire for choirs around the globe. Both Dawson and Mendelssohn represent composers who have felt the sting of injustice - Dawson overcoming the degradation of the Jim Crow era and Mendelssohn overcoming anti-Semitic criticism throughout the 100 years following his death

The children will have Sunday School this week. The memory verse for January 21 is: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." - Proverbs 3:5-6

Be a Covenant Ambassador!
The Saturday Tutoring Program needs your help. As an Ambassador for the Covenant we would like you to arrive by 9:30 Saturday mornings and do the following as needed:
  • Help visitors.  People walk in seeking directions to other buildings in the area or wanting to visit the sanctuary. They want bus tickets or food, or seek the times the Cache is open.  There can be people arriving for wedding or funeral preparations.
  • Help parents of STP students get to the library and reception room.  Some parents sit in their cars during tutoring. Others prefer to sit upstairs where coffee, tea, and water are provided.  Ambassadors will escort them to the upstairs area.
  • Distribute literature to tutors, parents, and visitors. This is an opportunity to distribute fliers about Covenant events: Trunk-or-Treat, Thanksgiving dinner or simply information about Sunday service.
  • Recognize student and tutor achievements.  Interact with the tutors and kids, listen to what they've accomplished, and congratulate them.
If you have questions, please contact Mary Anne Bromelmeier.

Flower Donations
Did you know that the beautiful flower arrangements we enjoy each Sunday come to us for the remarkably low price of $85? This is not covered by the church's budget, but by individual donations. Flowers can be donated in honor or memory of an individual or group, and donations of any size are much appreciated to help offset the cost. After the service, the deacons create several small arrangements from the large arrangements and give them to members of the congregation who are sick or celebrating milestones. If you would like to sponsor flower for a worship service, please contact the church office or email [email protected]
