January 18, 2018
Greetings!

Each summer, CJ provides faith-centered and service learning experiences to students to help them grow in their faith and servitude to those who are less fortunate. This summer, we are excited to offer the following experiences:

  • Solsberry, Indiana (June 4-8, $300, limit of 14 students, open to all grades). This rural plunge experience gives students the opportunity to work with local partnerships during the day, reflection and prayer in the evening, and a lot of fun in-between. Students from Moeller High School will also join in this mission experience with CJ

  • Taos, New Mexico (June 10-15, $1,150 - $1,350 depending on airfare, limit of 15 students in current grades 10-12). This mission trip experience is designed to immerse 15 CJ students in direct community service at the Taos Pueblo (a Native American reservation, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in North America). Students will spend their time working with Preschool Native American children at the Taos Pueblo Head Start program and participate in agricultural and community restoration projects designed to enhance the quality of life at the Pueblo.

  • Cincinnati, Ohio (June 24-29, $270, limit of four students in current grades 9-11). This mission trip, called Rooted in the Vine, is a week-long immersion experience based on Catholic Social Teaching that offers students the chance to cultivate their faith, do hands-on service, and learn about the social justice issues affecting their community. Students will also connect with people in urban and rural settings and serve neighbors in need with St. Vincent de Paul.

  • Steubenville Youth Conference (June 29 - July 1, $270, limit of 15 students, open to all grades). Students are invited to experience the love of God in a new and more profound way through the Steubenville Youth Conference. The conference program includes daily Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, internationally-known speakers, and small group discussions.

  • LIFE Week ($275, limit of 6 students in grades 10 & 11).  LIFE Week allows students to grow in their relationship with God and to be faith leaders in their home schools. Students on this trip will join other students from Marianist high schools and come to understand more fully what it means to be Marianist.

Students will have the opportunity to hear about each of these service learning experiences during homerooms on Monday, Jan. 22. Applications will be available to students at that time. Additional information about each mission trip is available on the CJ website .

PARENTS
School Delays and Closings
Decisions about delaying or cancelling school are made by reviewing affected locations of our students, who are spread across more than 50 zip codes. Calls are made when at least 30% of our students' home districts are affected. While we want our students to be in the learning environment as much of the school year as possible, it is also our responsibility to ensure they can arrive and leave the school safely. CJ's attendance policy allows your child to follow your local public district plan for the day if CJ does not delay/close and it will count as an excused absence. Please call OSS to report an absence if you choose to do this on an inclement weather day.

School Schedule Change
Friday, Feb. 16 - No School
There will be no school on Friday, Feb. 16. This is due to the CJ community going above and beyond their item and monetary goals during Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week in the fall. This will be a four-day weekend for students as there is no school on Monday, Feb. 19 for President's Day.
