"Wolverine Awakening" Chapels
Begin Second Semester
|
|
Wolverine Awakening
is a special event for Prince middle and high school students comprised of three chapel services designed to encourage and challenge students spiritually as they start the new year and second semester of school.
Wolverine Awakening
took place on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of the first week back to school and was led by Prince Director of Spiritual Life Ben Wallis with special music led by Caleb Barnes.
Wolverine Awakening
focused on Psalm 51 and the ideas of repentance, rededication, and restoration. Students were encouraged to use past sins and mistakes for God’s glory, to choose God’s path for their lives, and to seek God with a “broken and contrite heart”.

Prince Students Collect Hoodies
for Kids First Ministries
|
|
Prince Avenue Christian School lower and middle school students recently supported Kids First Ministries through the Holiday Hoodies project.
Twenty-five Prince families donated new hoodies for 48 girls and 54 boys that were presented to local children in need when Kids First Ministries had their yearly Christmas party.
Kids First Ministries was begun in 2003 by former Prince Lower School Music teacher Larry Boling and his wife Anna.

Missionaries Visit with Kindergarten Classes
|
|
As part of their lessons about missionaries and what it means to carry the gospel around the world and to all nations, Prince kindergarten students enjoyed a recent visit from David and Beverly Shivar who are currently serving as missionaries to Nicaragua.
The Shivars were formerly on staff at PACS and have four children who are alumni of PACS. The Shivars shared with students about their lives as missionaries, about the Nicaraguan culture, and about how Christmas is celebrated in Nicaragua.

Abby Frost Chosen as Rotary Student
of the Semester

Senior Abby Frost was named the first semester Prince Avenue Christian School's Rotary Student of the Semester selected by teachers for her demonstration of the Rotary Club motto of "Service Above Self."
Abby is the daughter of Jerry and Justin Frost and has attended Prince Avenue for five years. She chose high school math teacher Katie Gilbert to share this honor with her at a Rotary Club breakfast.

Students Study Gas Laws in Chemistry Lab
|
|
Mrs. Harvey’s 10th Grade Chemistry students recently studied Gas Laws and applied their knowledge in science lab. At three different stations, the students studied Boyles’ Law, Charles’ Law, and Gay-Lussac’s Law, each of which explains how gases should behave under certain conditions.

Townley and Frost Honored
by Daughters of the American Revolution
|
|
Two Prince Avenue Christian School students were recently honored at the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Apalachee Chapter Awards Luncheon.
Eighth-grade student Grace Townley was selected as the winner of the DAR American History Essay Contest. Grace responded to the prompt “The Women's Suffrage Campaign” and was honored as the PACS school winner and the 8th grade DAR Apalachee Chapter Winner. Her essay will move forward to be judged at the district level.
Also honored at the luncheon was PACS senior Abby Frost. Abby was nominated by PACS teachers for this special honor and received the Good Citizen Award in response to her outstanding character and commitment to citizenship both within Prince Avenue as well as in the community.

Prince National Art Honors Society
Raises Money for Local Homeless Shelter
|
|
The Prince Avenue National Art Honor Society's 7th Annual Empty Bowls silent auction was held Friday, January 18th. PACS high school NAHS members, along with faculty members, created 33 beautiful handmade pottery bowls and filled the bowls with goods. A variety of themes were presented such as coffee, edible goodies, handmade jewelry, sports, and small potted plants.
All proceeds from the auction will go directly to A Bigger Vision, a local Athens-area homeless shelter. PACS NAHS has donated more than $12,000 to A Bigger Vision over the past five years, and because of the generosity of the PACS community, this year’s auction raised $2000 to add to that total. Students will present the money to A Bigger Vision on a Monday night when they will participate in serving a meal to the residents.
PACS High School Visual Arts teacher Meghan Hudson is the organizer of Empty Bowls at PACS and sees the program as an opportunity for PACS students to use their talents to benefit others and glorify God. “We are excited for this opportunity each year. Serving meals at the shelter helps us to see why Empty Bowls is so important to our community. This project helps our students experience first-hand creative ways to help others with their talents.”

Band Students Qualify for
Middle School District Honor Band
|
|
Four Prince Avenue Middle School Band students recently qualified for the 2019 Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) Middle School District Honor Band. Sixth-grader Jennifer Dunn, seventh- graders Brock McDonald and Andrew Gilmore, and 8th grader Zach Hester competed against over 1200 middle school band students from throughout northeast Georgia to earn membership in this prestigious ensemble. They will rehearse and perform with the District Honor Band at the Georgia Baptist Conference Center in Toccoa on February 8th – 9th.
Of special note, Andrew Gilmore scored high enough at the district audition to qualify to compete at the state audition to be held in January. There, Andrew will play against the best middle school trombone players in Georgia for membership in the GMEA All-State Band. Also of special note, Jenifer Dunn is only the second student in Prince history to make the District Honor Band as a 6th grader, a significant accomplishment on a competitive instrument such as the flute.
Congratulations to these band students on their hard work and musical achievements.

Senior Janie Henderson
Receives Top State Softball Honor
|
|
Prince Avenue senior Janie Henderson was recently selected by coaches across the state of Georgia as the Georgia Dugout Club 2018 Single A Softball Player of the Year. Janie was recognized at a breakfast for players and coaches on Saturday, January 12th in Marietta, Georgia.
Janie's senior softball season was packed with accomplishments. She received 1st Team All-Region, 1st Team All-State, Athens Banner Herald Preps Softball Player of the Year, and Georgia Athletic Coaches Association Senior All Star Team (game to be played at West Georgia University on June 12th).
Janie has signed to continue her softball career at the collegiate level with the University of North Georgia. Congratulations to Janie on a great season and many thanks for representing the Wolverines so well.

Prince Avenue Christian School Assistant Athletic Director and Head Baseball and Softball Coach Phil Roberts was recently named the Athens Banner Herald Softball All-Area Coach of the Year. Congratulations to Coach Roberts and the Prince softball team on an amazing season.

The Prince Avenue Middle School Girls Basketball team recently enjoyed the exciting opportunity to scrimmage during halftime of a University of Georgia basketball game at Stegeman Coliseum.
