Covenant Renewal Sunday: "Teach Only Love"

The Healthy Congregation Team, Duke Duchscherer (Guest Speaker), Judy Brook (Worship Associate), and Rev. Mara

Please join us for our annual Covenant Renewal Sunday, hosted by our FUUSB Healthy Congregation Team, when we lift up, celebrate, and recommit ourselves to our congregational Covenant of Right Relations, which invites us to be intentional in our relationships with one another and our First UU beloved community. The service will feature a special guest sermon by Duke Duchscherer (see bio below), a leader and trainer in nonviolent communication and restorative justice. Duke will share stories and images from his work around the world.

Nonviolent Communication Workshop
Sarah Forbes

Nonviolent Communication:
Practical skills to live right relations in our homes and communities.
Facilitated by: Duke Duchscherer

Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is a unique approach to communicating  -  thinking, speaking, and listening  -  which guides us in transforming ineffective patterns of relating into new, compassionate ways of acting, expressing ourselves, and hearing others. Developed by Dr. Marshall Rosenberg, this practical and proven process has been used around the world in schools, prisons, social activism, healthcare, war zones, and government institutions, as well as in intimate personal relationships.
(See  www.cnvc.org . )

In this free introductory workshop you can begin to:
* Develop practical skills to create a quality of connection between you and others that supports trust, emotional safety, openness, and intimacy
* Experience the power of empathy to liberate natural compassion from within yourself and others
* Cultivate skills to dialogue with, and connect to the heart of another even when judgment, criticism, and blame arise to 'block' communication
* Deepen your relationship with yourself, creating more self-understanding and self-care

Inside Islam: Film Discussion Series at FUUSB
Andre Mol, Ministerial Intern
The Sanctuary and Solidarity Task Force is sponsoring a film discussion series on Islam. This program focuses on deepening our understanding of Islam as a way to combat Islamophobia.

The two initial screenings offered in January and February examine the history of Islam and how the faith is understood and practiced by Muslims today. Each screening is paired with a group discussion structured to explore the topics of the film in more depth.

Click here for additional details including dates, times and a summary of each film. RSVP with Linda Graves at  [email protected] or ( 802) 578-8434.

Help With Meals Needed
Your assistance is needed with meal help within our community. The link to all these requests is here:

*  Kathy Bonilla has been fighting a long-term health battle and she and her two granddaughters truly appreciate the help that a meal can be.

*  Miriam (Tammy) Strauss is also dealing with long-term health issues caused by being rear-ended by a cattle truck.

John Lincoln had additional shoulder surgery right after Thanksgiving and his partner, Jill Stevens, also has some long-term health challenges. They welcome some assistance for several weeks as John heals.

Elz Curtiss is caring for her partner, Lynne Matthews, and would love a meal on Mondays for herself. She is the sole caregiver for Lynne on the weekends, and so by
Monday has exhausted her food stores and hasn't had time to replenish them.

On behalf of the Care Network Team,

Sarah Weber  (802) 373-0197
(Please don't hesitate to call with any questions.)
