Poultry Chain Update
Please mark your calendars if you signed up to participate in this year's poultry chain project. The estimated delivery date for the chicks is  April 5th .   Remember all poultry chain participants must attend the Biosecurity and Poultry Husbandry Workshop on March 20 th at 6:30 pm.
 
4-H Poultry Day and Eggs Contest

Tuesday - March 20, 2018
Youth Building on the Clark County Fairgrounds

5:30 - 6:00 pm -  Contestants set up Egg dishes/place settings; includes a copy of your recipe

6:00 - 6:30 pm - Individual Contestant Question and Answer Session with Contest Judges

6:30 - 7:30 pm - Bio-security and Poultry Husbandry Workshop (ALL poultry chain participants are REQUIRED to attend)

7:30 - 8:00 pm - Awards presentation and Wrap up


To be considered an Egg dish, a recipe must:
1. Include a minimum of:
            * One-half egg per serving if an appetizer or snack
            * One-half egg per serving if a dessert
            * One egg per serving if a main dish
Note: Numbers above represent eggs to be broken; use of the entire egg is not required. For example, a dessert serving six may be made from three egg whites.
2. Allow for adequate cooking of the eggs. Recipes containing uncooked eggs in the finished product are not acceptable (food safety).
3. Per serving, a recipe should not contain more than 13 grams of total fat, 4 grams of saturated fat or 480 milligrams of sodium.

Also, please register for the eggs contest by March 16 th.

 
Reactivate Your 4-H Membership!
 
Many of you still need to reactivate your 4-H membership at http://arkansas.4honline.com . You will need to make sure you are active in order to participate in 4-H events.
 

4-H WHEP Workshops

If you have an interest in wildlife, wildlife habitat and habitat practices and would like to be a part of the 4-H WHEP team, please call the Extension Office. Workshops have started and 4-H members are preparing for the state contest on April 28th in Russellville.
 
County O-Rama/Big B Day

The County O-Rama/Big B Day will be held Saturday, April 21st at the Clark County Fairgrounds, beginning with check-in at the Youth Building at 9:30 a.m. The events will begin at 10:00 a.m. The day's events include:
 
  • Bicycle Contest
  • BB Gun Marksmanship/Gun Safety Contest
  • Bait Casting Contest
  • Talks and Demonstrations
  • Reel Into Sports Fishing
  • Insect Collections Contest
  • Crop & Weed I.D., Horticulture, Forestry, Wildlife Contests
  • Broiler & Turkey BBQ
 
Deadline to register for MOST EVENTS at the County O-Rama/Big B Day is Friday, April 13th. You can participate in any or all of the activities. Please let us know which activities you plan to participate in when you call the office to register. Clover Buds are welcomed to participate on a non-competitive basis. All Clover Buds will receive participation ribbons.
Deadline to register for the BROILER & TURKEY BBQ is Friday, April 6th in order to secure enough chicken halves.

Giant Pumpkin and Watermelon Contest Seed Requests

All 4-H members wanting to enter the 4-H Giant Pumpkin and Watermelon Contest need to place their orders at the County Extension Office by Monday, March 26th.   Each packet of seed will cost $2. 4-H members that are 9-19 years old will be eligible for the State Weigh-in at the Arkansas State Fair on October 13th. New this Year - The heaviest 5 pumpkins and the heaviest 5 watermelons among our 4-H'ers will represent Clark County at this weigh-in, where there are cash prizes for the top 10 places in each category. Last year over $2000 in cash prizes were awarded.
 
Clover Buds can order the seeds as well and their pumpkins & watermelons can be exhibited in the Clark County Fair Giant Pumpkin & Watermelon Contest. Each 4-H member that registers will receive fact sheets on how to grow giant pumpkins & watermelons, as well as a list of guidelines.
 
Dairy Food Contest - rescheduled to March 31st

The 2018 Dairy Foods Contest will be held Saturday, March 31st at the Youth Building on the Clark County Fairgrounds. The doors will open at 12:15 pm for set-up and will close promptly at 1:00 pm for judging. Junior (ages 9-13) and Senior (ages 14-19) dishes will be judged together. Clover Buds are encouraged to bring a "Party Ideas" entry for critique only that will not be judged. Remember - each dairy foods entry must have some type of place setting. Be creative!
    
            Deadline to register is Wednesday, March 26th - please tell us what category you will be competing in: Main Dish, Party Ideas or BOTH. For more information on contest rules, contact Cindy at the Extension Office.
