AURORA SOLAR ENERGY PROJECT
|
AURORA SOLAR ENERGY PROJECT
Aurora will be a 150-megawatt solar thermal power station, incorporating 8 hours of full load energy storage (1100 megawatt-hours). Aurora will deliver over 500 gigawatt-hours of energy annually - providing fully dispatchable electricity to the network when it's needed most. Storage will enable the solar thermal station to operate just like a conventional coal or gas power station, reliably generating electricity day and night - except without any emissions.

DEVLOPMENT APPROVAL
SolarReserve has received Development Approval for its Aurora Solar Energy Project, a key milestone required to build the landmark 150 megawatt solar thermal power station 30 kilometers north of Port Augusta. The approval process examined a range of critical elements including environmental, community, and social impacts of the Aurora project, which were assessed by several South Australian Government agencies. Development Approval is a legal document which enables SolarReserve to construct the Aurora project, provided the construction complies with the submitted plans and any conditions outlined in the Development Approval.

A SOLARRESERVE CHRISTMAS
Our SolarReserve team had a blast volunteering with the preparation for the Salvation Army's Community Christmas Meal. Thank you Port Augusta Salvation Army for the wonderful service you are providing the community this Christmas and thank you to those services involved in the Port Augusta Christmas Assistance Program. Together Salvation Army, Centacare, Saint Vincent De Paul, Uniting Country SA and Foodbank have delivered food hampers and toys to over 200 families from Port Augusta, Quorn, Hawker, Wilmington and all the way up to Maree.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS; SALT
What's molten salt?
Molten salt is the fluid used in a SolarReserve solar thermal power station to both capture and then store the sun's energy in the form of heat. The "salt" is a non-toxic, inert, and environmentally friendly mixture of sodium nitrate and potassium nitrate, which in solid form is traditionally used as garden fertilizer.

About SolarReserve
SolarReserve is a leading global developer, owner and operator of utility-scale solar power projects, with more than $1.8 billion of projects in operation worldwide. The company
has
commercialised
its proprietary ThermaVaultâ„¢ advanced solar thermal technology with integrated molten salt energy storage that delivers renewable energy that is dispatchable 24/7. The technology is now one of the world's leading energy storage technologies, and allows solar energy to operate like traditional fossil-fired and nuclear electricity generation - except the fuel is the sun which means zero emissions, zero hazardous waste, and zero dependence on fuel price volatility.
Since the company's formation in early 2008, SolarReserve's experienced team has assembled a pipeline of over 13 gigawatts across the world's most attractive, high growth renewable energy markets. SolarReserve is headquartered in the US, and maintains a global presence with seven international offices to support widespread project development activities across more than 20 countries. The company currently has an office in Perth, and will be opening its permanent Australian headquarters in Adelaide and field office in Port Augusta by the end of 2017.
