Reminder: Register today for Grants to Expand School Breakfast Webinars

This Thursday January 18th, the California Department of Education will kick off the second year of the grant application process for new school breakfast funds with an educational webinar. These competitive grants are open to all applicants and will prioritize schools implementing or expanding after-the-bell breakfast.

Federal Action: Share your SNAP Resolution with California Association of Food Banks

A New Year shout-out to our friends at the California Association of Food Banks (CAFB) for creating the SNAP New Years Resolution Campaign!  In response to current federal proposals from the administration and Congress, including the recently passed tax bill, CAFB has launched a New Year's Resolution Campaign to recommit to protecting SNAP. Throughout January, they are asking advocates, food banks and elected officials to join in sharing their SNAP New Year's Resolution for 2018.

This month is a great opportunity to approach stakeholders like your mayor, city council member, and your member of Congress. CAFB is also encouraging organizations to create a resolution-making table in your office or workspace where people can write down a resolution and take a picture for you to post on your organization's social media accounts.

2018 Freshy Award Nomination Period Extended! Nominate a CalFresh Champion Today!


Don't wait! The Freshy Award nomination process will close on January 19, 2018 at 6pm.

Each year, CFPA recognizes "Freshy Award" winners in acknowledgment of individual Californians, as well as organizations, from across the state that have worked diligently in the last year to improve CalFresh. The winners are announced and recognized at the annual CalFresh Forum.

CFPA is now accepting nominations for the 2018 Freshy Awards! The Freshy Award categories were established to encourage nominations across a number of CalFresh oriented professions, including advocates, administrators, elected officials, and more. We are collecting information about each nominee in order to develop a voting ballot that will be distributed in January 2018. 

Freshy Award categories: 
* Administrator of the Year
* Outreach Leader of the Year
* Advocate or Grassroots Mobilizer of the Year
* Elected Official or Capitol Staffer of the Year

In addition, CFPA recognizes the small, medium and large counties with the highest, and most improved, Program Access Index (PAI).
