Lenten seasons over the years
by Barb Dancer

According to Wikipedia:  "In Lent, many Christians commit to fasting, as well as giving up certain luxuries in order to replicate the sacrifice of Jesus Christ's journey into the desert for 40 days."  Growing up Roman Catholic, in my house it was simpler: we gave up chocolate, or maybe all sweets, or when we were older and body-conscious, we gave up those pesky 5 pounds...  I'm not sure any of those really replicated the sacrifice of Jesus' journey into the desert.  And worse yet, click here to continue reading...

Correspondence with the National Church
On January 22nd, our Presiding Bishop, the Most Rev. Michael B. Curry, and the President of the House of Deputies, the Rev. Gay Clark Jennings, wrote a letter calling the church to reflection and
repentance around the ways the church has handled and mishandled sexual misconduct. The Rev. Jennings has also asked for feedback with regard to this issue in preparation for the General Convention which will be held this summer in Austin, Texas. With the encouragement and support of our rector, Kathryn+, the vestry executive committee has sent an email to the Rev. Jennings, offering some feedback from our own experience of working through this issue. For those who are interested, both the letter from the national church and our response are available on the bulletin board in the parish hall. Please direct any questions or comments to Kathryn+ or to Clare Andreasson, Senior Warden.

Considering Baptism?
Are you considering baptism for you or your child? The Easter Vigil (March 31 this year) is one of the 'especially appropriate' Sundays for baptism (referred to as baptismal feasts). The others are: the Day of Pentecost, All Saints' Day or the Sunday after All Saints' Day, and the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord (the First Sunday after the Epiphany). The BCP recommends that, as far as possible, baptism should be reserved for these feasts. Please contact The Rev. Kathryn Costas if you are interested.

Easter Flowers for the church
Traditionally, parishioners have given special donations for our Easter flowers in honor or in memory of loved ones. Envelopes are available in the Commons for your donations. Please write 'Easter Flowers' on the memo line of your check, and please include the wording for your dedication, which will appear in our Easter bulletin. Drop your envelope into the offering plate or bring to the office. Thank you!

Thank you for a very special coffee hour
My heart was full of gratitude last Sunday at the coffee hour to honor my work as Youth Director. I would especially like to thank Ann and Jamie Hackett for hosting and decorating the tables with photos of youth ministry in action, Kelly and Terry Rayment for buying the delicious chocolate cake dedicated to "MS DONNA," and Ellen Schrader for finding just the right photos and layout for my final Grace Life story. My thanks also extend to every parishioner who wished me well, every parent who thanked me for my ministry, and every youth who sent me off with a heartfelt hug. The past two years have been an honor; thank you for letting me serve, Donna.

Turn in your Oleson's receipts to benefit the Grace Food Pantry!

Oleson's Community Share Program

Here's how it works:
  1. You shop at Oleson's for groceries (liquor sales do not qualify for points)
  2. Turn in your receipts to the church.  Look for the envelope on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall, and place your receipts inside it.
  3. We submit receipts back to Oleson's
  4. We are granted cash rewards for the food pantry ($1 spent on groceries = 1 cent in Community Share points)

For every $5000 in receipts we submit, we receive $50 in cash for our food pantry.  Every little bit helps!

Thank you for participating!
