Special Evening for a Special Cause

LUM Good Samaritan Fund FOLLIES on
Friday, April 13  at  5:30 p.m. at St. Andrew United Methodist Church.

LUM Follies is a lighthearted evening of fine dining, entertainment, fun & good company, filled with joyful surprises. There will be a lovely dinner with fabulous people; a Silent Auction filled with unique & priceless items; and local entertainment that will bring laughter, fun and excitement to the room.

The best part of the LUM Good Samaritan Fund Follies is that 100% of the proceeds from this event go to the LUM Good Samaritan Fund , an emergency financial assistance program that supports local families. Last year the Good Samaritan Program served families 2,032 times and distributed $115,314 to avert evictions, utility disconnects and other financial crises. Please support the Good Samaritan Fund by attending this year’s LUM Follies.

Purdue Convos Treats LUM Students to Live Show
LUM Students Attending "Curious George" Live
Thanks to the Purdue Convocations Community Outreach endowment set up by Mary Seyfried, LUM students will be attending Curious George: The Golden Meatball at Purdue THIS Sunday, March 4, at 3 p.m.

As a young child, Mary Seyfried, attended a live performance at Purdue thanks to a family friend. Remembering to this day the joy that attending this show brought to her, Mary set up the Community Outreach endowment to provide Convos tickets to children & families who would not likely be able to attend on their own.

LUM appreciates Purdue Convocations and Mary Seyfried for thinking of the LUM students and providing the LUM After School Program with 65 tickets to Curious George. With oversight from the LUM teacher's aides, the students will write and draw a reflection on this experience and of course a personal thank you note to Purdue Convocations and Mary Seyfried. LUM Converting Light Bulbs - Saving Energy
LUM Maintenance Director Replacing 882 Bulbs
In a project to save energy and save money, LUM is in the process of replacing 882 florescent bulbs with LED light bulbs.

The details of the project are as follows:
  • Total bulbs = 882
  • Cost = $6,870
  • Rebate = $4 per bulb = $3,528
  • Savings = 1/3 of our current energy
  • Savings = ~$5,500 per year

Thanks to Nate Gick (pictured), LUM Maintenance Director, for coordinating the entire project including purchasing, replacing bulbs, rewiring each unit, removing ballasts, making repairs as needed & recycling old bulbs and ballasts.

In Memoriam - Dale Bough & Joe Wippel
Valued LUM Board Leaders
In February, two valued leaders and long-time friends of Lafayette Urban Ministry passed away —  Dale E. Bough & Joseph F. Wippel.
Dale Bough of West Lafayette was a valued leader and long-time volunteer with LUM, serving several years as a member of the LUM Board of Directors and as the president on the LUM Executive Council in 2009.

Dale was an active member of Federated Church, West Lafayette. Our thoughts & prayers are with his wife, Maxine, and his children — Jenifer, Paul & Sabine — and his entire family. View obiturary.
Joe Wipple of Lafayette was a valued leader and long-time volunteer with LUM, serving several years as a member of the LUM Board of Directors and serving as an officer on the LUM Executive Council from 2000 - 2005.

Joe was an active member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Lafayette. Our thoughts & prayers are with his children — Cynthia, Teresa, Penny, Stellia, Heather, Jeffrey, Scott & Robert — and his entire family. View obituary.
Their leadership and service to the children, families, hungry & homeless at Lafayette Urban Ministry as well as to our entire community will not soon be forgotten.

Joe Micon, LUM executive director, shared that "Dale lovingly built all the 'cubbies' used by the children in the LUM After School and 5th Quarter Programs. Dale and Joe were close friends spending many years together delivery bed sheets to the LUM shelter and food to the St. John's/LUM Food Pantry. Surely, if there is a pick-up truck in Heaven, Joe and Dale are back together, hard at work!"

Training for Hotline Rapid Responders

Greater Lafayette Immigrant Allies is partnering with Faith in Indiana Congregation Action Network (IndyCAN) to bring a rapid response hotline to Greater Lafayette. Training is being offered for Rapid Responders, who will staff the rapid response hotline serving Greater Lafayette. Training is being offered THIS Saturday, March 3 from 1-5 p.m. at Central Presbyterian Church, 31 N 7th Street, Lafayette. To register for the Rapid Responders training, click HERE .
