School Expo Week Helps Families Prepare for SchoolChoice
This is an exciting time for our families as they get ready for SchoolChoice. January is the month when families research their options to find the best-fit school for their student. To make the process more convenient, we've planned five regional Great Schools Expos rather than one large districtwide expo. The expos will take place Jan. 22-25. Click

The SchoolChoice season opens Feb. 1, and the deadline for families to rank their top five school choices and submit their online application is 4 p.m. Feb. 28.

Progress Update on the African-American Equity Task Force
In the fall of 2016, the African-American Equity Task Force (AAETF) was commissioned to develop a set of recommendations to help improve the experiences of our African-American students, families, team members and teachers. Since the adoption of the recommendations by the Board of Education in June 2017, five implementation teams have been created with the task of driving results toward each of the recommendations.
Currently, these teams are collaborating with multiple departments and organizations to develop and prioritize actions that will lead to results.

Apply for A to Z Fund Teacher and Classroom Grants by Jan. 31
If you're a classroom teacher trying to fund a special project, apply for an A to Z Fund Teacher and Classroom Grant through the DPS Foundation by Jan. 31 -- or share this funding opportunity with educators you know! The grants fund innovative programs or projects that enrich the learning experiences of our kids. They fund materials, resources and opportunities that fall outside classroom budgets but have a lasting impact on students. Grants range from $500 to $2,000. Apply before 5 p.m. Jan. 31.

Learn to Lead Principal Resident, Grant Ranch
"Mike Atkins is a champion for all students and staff at Grant Ranch and lives the Shared Core Value of Equity. Every day, he demonstrates that he cares for all of our students as well as our staff, and consistently exhibits a posture of listening and learning from others. Because of his personal and professional experiences, Mike has dedicated his efforts to help shift the culture of our building. He has helped align us toward one common goal -- that all students have equitable access to meaningful and transformative education.
By developing and implementing systemic changes, Mike has pushed the status quo and has helped us become a staff that is accountable to our students, our community and to each other. Mike inspires us to revisit why we dedicate our lives to our students and he empowers us to rise up to meet their needs.
