The administration, faculty & staff of TABC wish you a wonderful, relaxing Winter Break.
Highland Park Shabbaton
Despite the frigid temperatures, TABC was able to spread some of its trademark warmth to the Highland Park community at our much-anticipated Shabbaton there last Shabbat. Over 100 talmidim traveled to Highland Park, one of the many communities which make up the TABC family, braving the extreme cold weather to spend Shabbat together. After spending the first seudah at their hosts, everyone joined for an oneg at theBerg home  (parents of Yoni Berg '20). It was a night of heartfelt singing and Torah delivered by Rabbi Einhorn. The next day, everyone davened together in Congregation Ahavas Achim's teen minyan, where they were addressed by Rabbi First and then enjoyed the seudah held in the shul. In the afternoon, there were optional shiurim given by Rabbi First, Rabbi Krinsky and Rabbi Yoni Mandelstam. For the fourth year in a row, the Kreitmans (parents of Raphi '18) hosted Seudah Shlishit and Mr. Kreitman shared words of Torah. After havdala, the group headed to the Urban Air Trampoline Park for a night of fun and bonding. For more photos, click here.

Matmidim Siyum
Our Matmidim shiur had a siyum with Chickie's and Dougie's celebrating their completion of the 2nd perek of Brachot covering daf with every Rashi and Tosaphot plus other meforshim on the perek.  This is a major accomplishment for 12th graders and they will now tackle the 7th perek of Brachot.  The siyum had heartfelt singing and schmooze from Rabbi Kessel. It was also a celebration of the newest member of the Matmidim shiur, Mr. P!
TABC Performs Hound of the Baskervilles
Monday night, January 8, 2018, the TABC Theater Department, in collaboration with Envision Theater, presented The Hound of the Baskervilles , a 'rib-tickling spoof' of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's timeless tale to an enthusiastic and eager audience of TABC students, parents, faculty and friends. This outrageous comedy where actors are seen dashing about the stage, making lightning quick costume changes, shooting invisible elephants, all the while trying to solve the mystery of the hound through tongue twisting dialogue and witty repartee, left the audience with side-splitting paroxysms of laughter. "I am so impressed with how the students handled the humor of this show. I laughed the whole way through.", remarked an esteemed teacher.

Rebecca Lopkin, Director of Performing Arts at TABC and Artistic Director of Envision Theater, chose this show to not only challenge her cast's level of aerobic fitness but also to give them the opportunity to polish their comedic chops. The cast, featuring students from each grade, was stage managed by senior Jacob Gordon, who was also tasked with assembling and executing the more than 50 sound cues. The cohesive cast met Ms. Lopkin's challenges at each and every checkpoint. The cast's twice weekly rehearsals, which began in September, started with 20 minutes of improvisation to not only build acting skills but to help form a cohesive ensemble. The rehearsals were also an opportunity for Ms. Lopkin to impart acting theory and craft to help the actors to explore and establish character, build relationships and create the 'improvised' feel of the show. Students will celebrate their success with a cast party and a trip to see The Play that Goes Wrong on Broadway.

The TABC Theater Department has expanded since Ms. Lopkin took it over last year. Her goal is to continually add more arts opportunities for the students at TABC. Last year she established a chapter of The International Thespian Society and took the students to two Broadway shows. The students will perform a drama this spring and will compete in the Envision Shakespeare competition. This spring will also see the introduction of a brand new program, The Evening of the Arts. Both performing and visual arts will be featured in what promises to be a night to remember. For more photos, click here.
8th Graders & Alumni Come to TABC for
Beis, Ball, and BBQ
All 8th grade applicants were invited to TABC this past motzaei Shabbat to participate in a night of learning, eating and fun. The evening began with a shiur by Rabbi Yoni Mandelstam, followed by chavruta learning with TABC seniors and alumni. The boys then enjoyed the camaraderie of playing sports and board games. The evening concluded with a melave malka BBQ with the help of famous grill master Rabbi Tzvi Yaakov Miretzky. The students enjoyed an opportunity to meet applicants from other elementary schools, speak with TABC seniors and alumni, and also experience the learning and fun for which TABC is known. End of Semester Celebrations
Mrs. Miller's ninth grade English class concluded their semester with a study of imagery in poetry, and then celebrated the semester with a study of imagery in cake. Expert baker and birthday boy Yosef Nussbaum shared a TABC-themed birthday cake with his classmates. The cake was full of visual, olfactory, and gustatory delights. Congratulations to 9R2 on a great semester!

Y5 Gemara celebrated a great semester with a Chickie's lunch.

Y18A celebrated the end of a wonderful zman of learning Chumash with a trip to Dunkin' Donuts.
Tzurba Sizzle was an end of the zman appreciation of time dedicated to Torah lishma. Tzurba rebbe Rabbi Yoni Mandelstam got Dougie's for the group to supplement the daily sweet taste of Torah.

Y10 Assists in Preparation
of Alumnus Andy Rudin's
Tanaim & Ketubah
Last Tuesday morning, Y10 assisted Rabbi Wiener as he filled out the Tenaim and Ketuba for Andy Rudin '05 in anticipation of his marriage to Ahuva Jacobowitz that night. The boys used their knowledge of shtarot discussed in shiur to ensure the ketuba was filled out properly. Rabbi Wiener gave a detailed explanation of the contents of the ketuba and answered many questions posed by the talmidim.
