"LIVE TO BE 100" IS TOPIC OF CIVIC ASSOCIATION FORUM
By Michele Dargan, special for the Civic Association -- The Palm Beach Civic Association will present "Live to be 100 with a High-Quality Palm Beach Lifestyle" at 10 a.m. March 20.
The forum will feature interviews and a panel discussion with medical professionals who will reveal what it takes to live a longer, healthier life.
The event will take place at The Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea, 141 S. County Rd, Palm Beach. There will be complimentary valet parking. It's free and open to the public, but registration is required. For registrations, call 561-655-0820 or register online at

Anita Finley will serve as moderator. Ms. Finley is the publisher of Boomer Times & Senior Life, a radio talk show host, author, and gerontologist.

Lew Crampton Wins Palm Beach Council Seat
Lew Crampton defeated Harris S. Fried by a comfortable margin in their contest for the Group 1 Town Council seat, claiming 60 percent of the vote in Tuesday's election. Crampton had 1,401 votes to Fried's 934, according to unofficial results from the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Office.

Lew Crampton on Council Victory: Voters Shared his 'Broader Vision'
Lew Crampton, who prevailed over Harris S. Fried with nearly 60 percent of the vote in Tuesday's Town Council election, said Wednesday he won because most voters shared his views for Palm Beach's future.
Crampton's core message: he had the management experience and ability to do the job and would work to protect the security of residents while safeguarding the island's high quality of life.

Palm Beach Town Council Eyes
Trust Fund Surplus
A health care trust fund for town retirees is overfunded by nearly $4 million, the Town Council learned at a meeting earlier this month. The town can't take the money out, but it appears it will be able to stop funding the trust for a few years, freeing up nearly $1 million annually for other uses.

Town Explores Trimming
Employee Raises
Palm Beach is looking to drive down the cost of employee raises, which is approaching $1 million a year. But the Town Council on Monday decided against lowering performance increases until it can learn more about how well neighboring municipalities pay their employees.

Town Reduces Speed Limit in North County Road Shopping District

Many times, John David Corey would notice speeding cars while walking along North County Road's shopping district. "Sometimes," Corey said, "it became a raceway." So Corey, founder of Palm Beach Walks, a group that promotes safer walking and bicycling conditions on the island, asked the town to reduce the area's speed limit from 30 mph to 25 mph.

Town Council to Appoint Member(s) to the Investment Advisory Committee
The Town of Palm Beach announces board member openings on the Town's Investment Advisory Committee effective May 2018. The Investment Advisory Committee acts in an advisory capacity and shall make recommendations to the Town Council in matters relating to the town's investment policy and the investment of the Town's surplus funds.

But it was the young singer/songwriter, Caroline Jones, who stole the show.

Palm Beach Town Council Meetings Rescheduled to Avoid Election Conflict
This month's Town Council meetings have been rescheduled to avoid conflict with the town election in Palm Beach.
The regular monthly meeting, which is normally the second Tuesday of the month, will be held at 9:30 a.m. on March 20. The council's development reviews meeting, which would have been on Wednesday, will be at 9:30 a.m. March 21.
