President's message
Jill Vogin

Hi Friends,

It is holiday time and you know what that means...soon we will be able to go back to knitting for ourselves!  I am flying down to the happiest place on earth with my daughter and am really looking forward to the knitting time as well.
We have a lot of wonderful things in the planning stages for 2018:
  • 2 more Superstar programs, Spring and Fall
  • A repeat of our most popular mini workshop...gradient dyeing
  • A brand new website with expanded content
  • Knitting in Public day event
  • And much more!
Looking forward to seeing all of you on Thursday, January 4 th.

Yours in knitting,

Jill

The Hole Truth: Placing & Spacing Buttons & Other Fastener s
By Phyllis Bell Miller

Have you ever found the right button in the wrong size for your masterpiece? This presentation explains how designers make calculations for planning, sizing, placing, and spacing buttons, buttonholes, and other fasteners. These handy guidelines apply to all garments, including those that are knitted, crocheted, and sewn. You will be able to adjust your pattern to suit the size of any fastener that you choose, add fasteners where none exists, or plan fasteners for your original designs.

Website - Update
Claire Murata Kooy

The old website is no longer operational  and the new website is under construction.  We hope to migrate very soon.  If you have any suggestions for the new website, please feel free to write me at [email protected]. Thank you for your patience

Women's Shelter

Please bring in toiletries to the January meeting - these will be much appreciated.

Bears

Folks, I delivered 32 dressed bears and other critters to the Georgia Council for Child Advocacy on Monday.  Again, they have provided us with a huge bag of naked dogs, cats and rabbits to dress, donated by PetSmart.  Since we now have a really large supply of these critters, AKG knitters might want to note their measurements: chest is 14"; tummy is 16".  We still have a supply of smaller bears that need sweaters, as well.

An additional note: My count of dressed bears delivered to GCCA for 2017 is 311, although this accounts for 10 months.  I am missing any bears completed in January and April 2017.

KROGER

Please register  your  Kroger rewards card and list AKG as the community rewards recipient of their choice.  This, in no way, affects any rewards program you get as a shopper - it simply accumulates points for dollars spent shopping at Kroger and they then cut a check to AKG each quarter.  Easy, pain free way to earn extra $ for the guild.

Lost and Found
Jolie Elder

Well, the lost and found items are piling up at my house!

From October 2017: a rather nice pair of scissors. I'm surprised no one has claimed these yet.

From our December 2017 potluck:
a plastic bowl that looks like crystal
a rather nice cake server
a plastic plate
a two-part Tupperware-like cake and cookie transport

If any of this is yours, please let me know. If you left something behind on purpose because you don't want it, please let me know that, too. I can see it ends up someplace useful.

European Retreat

My name is Simone (aka OwlCat Designs) and besides designing knitwear and teaching workshops here in the US, I am working on launching two knitting/slow stitching retreats in my home country Switzerland.

I am offering two retreats in August 2018, the first one is a Knitting retreat with classes by Nancy Marchant and myself. We will stay on the grounds of a historic castle and take day trips into the surrounding area (medieval town and chocolate factory, anyone?). The second one is a Slow Stitching retreat up in a car free village on the sunny slopes of the alps, with a broader approach to fiber arts. We will be working on a few thoughtful projects using embroidery, hand sewing and knitting, and we'll get to enjoy a local artists class on making a wooly sheep that looks just like the sheep we are hoping to visit on our guided hike with a local shepherd.

The website with all the details is here
