The purpose of the Trauma-Informed Organizational Readiness Survey is to assess the continuum of trauma-informed care in the community. Whether your agency is trauma-informed, wants to be trauma-informed, or even if it is outside the mission of the work that is provided, your input is invaluable. This survey will assess your organization's trauma-informed care initiative for all of 2017.

In order to prepare to complete the survey, please select one person from your central Texas organization, agency, or school to complete the survey.

Recap: The Missing Piece of the Trauma Conversation -
Race-based Trauma
by Earley Ullrich, LCSW-S, RPT-S

On February 26, 2018, 134 people attended the training where Tanya Rollins, MSW, presented on The Missing Piece of the Trauma Conversation - Race-based Trauma. This training was organized by TICC and was held at the Center for Child Protection.

Ms. Rollins defines race-based trauma as the "cumulative negative impact of racism on the lives of people of color. Encompassing the emotional, psychological, health, economic and social effects of multigenerational and historical trauma. Relates to the damaging effects of ongoing societal and racial aggressions, internalized racism, overt racist experiences, discrimination and oppression within the lives of people of color. When repetitive and unresolved, these experiences rooted in racism can create severe emotional pain and distress that can overwhelm a person's and community's ability to cope."

YWCA Community Partnership Initiative
By  Angela-Jo Touza-Medina, M.A., LL.M.

Last year Chief of Police Manley was one  of our featured speakers at Countering Hate Community Dialogue, an event prompted by the tragic events in Charlottesville that shed light on the racism, sexism and hate that this nation has tried to deny and diminish. Since then and as a result of the events success and on-going training requests from the community YWCA Greater Austin's has launched its 2018-2020 Community Partnership Initiative.

YW Volunteer and Training Institute will be providing local community-based, non-profit and educational organizations an opportunity to receive free training and professional development for up to 12 of their staff and volunteers annually.

TNOYS Conference Offers Unique Opportunity to Learn Alongside Youth
by Lara O'Toole, LMSW

At the crosshairs of research on resilience, positive youth development, and recovery from trauma as well as best practice models like trauma-informed care, peer support, and restorative justice is the idea that youth can and must speak for themselves, and work alongside us. That's why, for the first time in 35 years, Texas Network of Youth Services (TNOYS) is fully integrating youth into its annual conference, taking place June 5-8 in Houston. For over three decades, TNOYS' annual conference has been bringing youth services professionals cutting-edge learning opportunities to help strengthen their work. This year will be no exception, as attendees are invited to learn, network, and have fun alongside young attendees throughout the event.
