THE RUNDOWN
STUDENT WALKOUT
This morning, nearly 200,000 students at more 3,000 schools across the country walked out of class in a show of activism aimed at demanding action from Congress on school gun violence. Reports say, collectively, it was one of the largest student protests since Vietnam. The walkouts, which ranged from silent to loud protests, happened at 10am in each time zone. They lasted for 17 minutes -- one minute for each person killed exactly one month ago in the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

TIGHT RACE
The results of a tight U.S. House race in Pennsylvania are still reportedly unclear at this hour. As of this morning, Democrat Conor Lamb had a small lead over his Republican challenger Rick Saccone in that special election that was held yesterday. Reports say Saccone may push for a recount -- in a district where President Donald Trump reportedly won by 20% back in 2016. Why is there so much national attention on this local race? Read on.

STEPHEN HAWKING
Acclaimed physicist Stephen Hawking -- who's described as the most famous scientist of our time -- has died at the age 76. Today, he is being remembered as a genius who prompted all of us to join him in his fascination with our universe. Reports say Hawking is best known for his work on understanding black holes. Twitter is filled with reflections this afternoon with everyone from NASA scientists to Barack Obama weighing in. Many of Hawking's admirers are acknowledging how incredible it was that he lived as as long as he did: he was diagnosed at age 21 with ALS and spent most of his life in a wheelchair.

The annual report takes income, freedom, trust, healthy life expectancy, social support and generosity into account when determining its winners. Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Switzerland round out the top five with the U.S. coming in at 18. Smile on!
BABY BINGE WATCHING
Is Netflix encouraging kids to join their parents and binge watch their favorite shows? That's what some are saying about a new Netflix feature that may be training kids to watch TV excessively. The new feature gives collectible "patches" that can be accessed only by watching episodes of "Fuller House," "Trollhunter" or "A Series of Unfortunate Events." Netflix claims it's testing this feature and that it may not roll out to all users.
