A newsletter of the Atlanta Knitting Guild: Bringing Atlanta's knitters together

Next meeting - December 7th - 7:30 p.m.

President's message
Jill Vogin

Hi Friends,
Hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!  I got to fly to Texas and enjoy quality knitting time. I need all the time I can get to have those holiday gifts fly off the needles.
A special thank you to Meg Fisher and the mini-workshop helpers for an awesome bear making and learning session.
Our December meeting will be all about celebrating the holidays with our friends! No speaker, just socializing and sharing. We will be having a pot luck dinner, with the guild providing the main course (roasted chicken and shrimp).  Let your creativity flow and bring your awesome culinary treats to share with the group.
We will also be having a gift exchange.  If you wish to participate, please bring a wrapped, knitting-themed gift worth $10 or so to the meeting.
Looking forward to seeing all of you on Thursday, December 7 th.
Yours in knitting,
Jill

**  Remember children who need your help: knit or crochet sweaters, tops, capes, dresses or hats to dress naked bears. Dressed bears will go to the Georgia Center for Child Advocacy to provide a bit of happiness to children who are in tough situations.  The holidays are coming! **

Programs

There will be no program this month - it is time to mingle!

White Elephant
December Program

We will be doing a gift exchange (white elephant) again this December. If you wish to participate, you should wrap a knitting related gift,10$ value, and bring it to the December pot luck. At the meeting, we will switch them around so that everyone who brings a gift will receive a gift. When purchasing your gift, please remember we have members of multiple faiths so please avoid holiday themed items.

Rules
.
When you arrive at the meeting, please write your name on a slip of paper and put it in the bowl.
Keep your gift with you and take a seat.
After we eat, someone neutral will draw the name of our first gift-giver.
Our first gift-giver will come to the front of the room and draw a name.
She then hunts the room to find the person whose name she drew (she is allowed help from the group).
She gives that person her gift and takes that person's seat. She introduces herself to the table and tells them a little about herself.
Meanwhile, the gift recipient becomes the second gift giver and so goes to the front of the room and draws a name. At this point, she has 2 gifts in her hands...the one she just got and the one she is giving away.
Repeat process until all names are depleted.
The last person will not be able to draw a name. Instead, she gives her gift to the first gift-giver.
Gifts can be opened/traded at any time.

Website - Update
Claire Murata Kooy

The old website is no longer operational  and the new website is under construction.  We hope to migrate by mid December.  If you have any suggestions for the new website, please feel free to write me at [email protected]. Thank you for your patience

Karleen Buchholz, Carol Hassell and Elizabeth Halberstadt

Women's Shelter

Please bring in toiletries to the December meeting - these will be much appreciated.

Bears

Folks, I delivered 21 dressed bears to the Georgia Council for Child Advocacy this morning.  Particular thanks go to Bridgette Fessele and Randie Cowan for their great work in dressing lots of bears.

I also returned from the Council offices with two huge bags of new bears, dogs and perhaps other species.  These were contributions from PetSmart.  I'll bring these to upcoming meetings, starting in December.  I hope everyone will get out their needles, because we really have a lot of naked animals to dress. Carol

KROGER

Please register  your  Kroger rewards card and list AKG as the community rewards recipient of their choice.  This, in no way, affects any rewards program you get as a shopper - it simply accumulates points for dollars spent shopping at Kroger and they then cut a check to AKG each quarter.  Easy, pain free way to earn extra $ for the guild.

Congratulations

December will be Pot Luck with Chicken and Shrimp provided by the guild

Website Update

Earlier this month, you should have had an email regarding the website. However, due to an unexpected issues, I am postponing migrating the website.  We will have the present website until November 20. Then we will lose the website until the middle of December.  However, during the time we do not have the website, the e-mails for @atlantaknittingguild.org will still work.
If you have any suggestions for the new website, please do not hesitate to e-mail me.  If anyone can do graphic design and help me with the website, please let me know as well.
Thank you very much for your understanding! Claire Kooy
