Through March 25 - Join the weekly Lenten book discussions that are continuing following the service. Based on "Pilgrim Road: A Benedictine Journey Through Lent" by Albert Holtz, discussion focuses on the daily meditations for each week of Lent, based on Holtz's pilgrimages and extensive travels.

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with Music at St. Brendan's
Mountainville Records in Association with Kakelane Music present Liam O'Maonlai in concert with special guests Kate Schrock and Hank Whitsett, Saturday, March 17th, 7pm at St. Brendan the
Navigator Hall.
Liam ó Maonlaí is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, artist, painter, and dancer- described as one of Ireland's best sean nós (traditional Irish) singers. Spanning over a quarter century, Ó Maonlaí's career has seen him achieve number-one hits in over twenty countries, from playing with Aboriginal musicians in the Australian outback to recording with some of the world's best-known musicians, including Glen Hansard, Markéta Irglová, Carlos Núñez, Dónal Lunny, U2, and Van Morrison, to name just a few.
In 1985, Liam and schoolmate Fiachna Ó Braonáin formed Hothouse Flowers, a group that has produced over half a dozen albums and continue to perform in Ireland and abroad.
Liam brings his music to the coast of Maine for a very special evening March 17th at St. Brendan's Hall in celebration of St. Patrick's Day. Suggested Donations of $20-30 welcome at the door.

Scripture Notes for the Fifth Sunday in Lent:
Each year on the first four Sundays of Lent we hear Old Testament readings which recall the most important events in "salvation history". On the fifth Sunday each year, we hear one of the prophetic passages which foresee the greater and ultimate saving event to come in Jesus' dying and rising. This year, the reading is Jeremiah's message that God will at some time in the future establish a new covenant with the people which will transcend the old covenant of the Exodus. The most significant thing about this new covenant is that it will be expressed in an interior relationship with God
rather than an exterior law.
The second reading today describes Jesus' suffering as the manifestation of his priestly ministry (using the image of the mysterious Old Testament priest Melchizedek, who in Hebrew tradition was thought greater than the priests of Israel and one who was,
in some sense, immortal). This is part of this epistle's argument that Jesus has supplanted the priesthood and worship of Israel. The Gospel reading also relates
Jesus' dying to his glorification and our salvation and as the means of calling the
whole world into the Kingdom.
As we near the end of our Lenten pilgrimage, these readings underscore the primary result of our worship and especially of Baptism and Eucharist: we have been made
part of Christ's Body in Baptism and a part of his priesthood; that is, we are part of what he does, we express our share in his sacrifice and his mediation between humanity and God in our celebration of the liturgy. Thus, indeed, is this new Covenant written on our hearts and we truly each know God as Jeremiah foretold.
Pray for those who will join that new Covenant when they are baptized at Easter.

We pray for the victims of the violence of armed conflicts around the world. We pray for those made refugees by the violence of armed conflicts. We pray for the victims of terrorist attacks everywhere.
We pray for all who suffer the effects of domestic violence and the violence
of bullying in our schools.
We pray for all peacemakers, and all those who work for justice.
We pray for all those serving in the armed forces of our country, remembering, especially, Craig, Chris, Graham, and Caleb.
We pray for all who govern, and we pray for the concerns of our local community, remembering, especially, our children, our young people, and our isolated elderly.
We pray for Justin, Archbishop of Canterbury; Suheil, Bishop of Jerusalem; Michael, our Presiding Bishop; Steve, our Bishop; for the members of our vestry; and for all our members, whose ministries are varied and far-reaching.
In the Diocesan Cycle of Prayer, we pray for
the congregations of Grace Church, Bath and St. Philips', Wiscasset. For all church musicians and choirs.
