Post-Secondary Planning Launched
This school year, with an eye toward graduation and life after high school, ASA administration has focused more energy on post-secondary planning. Teachers and counselors are offering special sessions to discuss the processes for college applications and financial, campus life, as well as opportunities to train for jobs and careers right after graduation.
Outside speakers have included actor Richard Gallion, known for Transformers: Age of Extinction and Chicago P.D. As part of his talk with students, Gallion provided tips on articulation, an important skill in acting and in life. (See photo above.) Post-secondary planning has also included visits to college campuses, including Wheaton College and Chicago State University.

ASA Participates in School Matinee Series
at Goodman Theater
What an incredible connection between the arts and high school curriculum! ASA is participating in the School Matinee Series through a grant from Goodman Theater secured by teachers Kelly Smith and Rachel Hersch. Smith, a math teacher, and Hersch, a language arts teacher, will coordinate lesson plans that tie into the the theater productions students experience. After seeing a performance of A Christmas Carol, the teachers focused lessons on the themes of exploring the individual's impact on others and weighing the importance of material goods against strong family and community ties. The class also studies the dynamics of stage craft, the math and science behind the magic of theater.
