"Taking the World in Our Arms"
This
Sunday
, we'll get back to spiritual basics: How do we live the best life we can in the time that we have? Our portal to this question will be this month's spiritual theme - balance, but we will enter in a slightly contrarian spirit, inspired by Brad Stulburg's proposition (in an August 2017
NY Times essay) "that maybe we all need a little less balance." The words of poet Mary Oliver and author Catherine Newman will be our companions. And we'll warmly welcome the newest members into covenant with the Society!

From Our Racial Justice Task Force: Black Lives Matter Banner Communication Points |
|
By now hopefully almost everyone has heard that we will be raising our Black Lives Manner banner in front of the Society Meeting House this coming Sunday, March 4. In the days and weeks after we raise the banner, you may find yourself in conversation with friends, colleagues, or family members and be asked about the banner - what it means and why we raised it. Here are some thoughts from those of us who have been working on the banner raising effort. See which thoughts resonate with you and might form the basis of your conversations with others.

Black Lives Matter Banner Dedication |
|
Rev. Mara will lead us in dedicating the Black Lives Matter banner this Sunday, March 4 at
12:30 p.m.
This short dedication ceremony is for members of our congregation and friends to set our intention for the banner and bestow it with love. An event to engage the larger community in dialogue is in the works for April.

DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO COULD USE A FRIENDLY VISIT OR A MEAL?
HOP ON THE MEAL TRAIN
What does it mean to cook vegetarian or vegan or gluten-free meals? On
Sunday, March 18 at 12:30 p.m. the Care Network Team will be hosting a guest speaker in the Community Room to help us understand these different ways of cooking and eating. Stay tuned! Delicious samples will be served.
SHORT ON TIME BUT LOOKING FOR A WAY TO HELP?
Share a meal with one of the following families. Nothing fancy is required. Your assistance does NOT have to be a 4-course gourmet meal. Some soup and bread or extra lasagna can be a huge help. Volunteer once or often... It is completely up to you...but everything helps.
*
John Lincoln had additional shoulder surgery right after Thanksgiving and his partner, Jill Stevens, also has some long-term health challenges. They welcome some assistance a couple times per week for several weeks as John heals.
*
Elz Curtiss is caring for her partner, Lynne Matthews, and would love
a meal once a week
on Mondays for herself. She is the sole caregiver for Lynne on the weekends, and so by Monday has exhausted her food stores and hasn't had time to replenish them.
* Kathy Bonilla has been fighting a long-term health battle and she and her two granddaughters truly appreciate the help that
a few meals a week
can be.
* Miriam (Tammy) Strauss is dealing with long-term health issues caused by being rear-ended by a cattle truck. One meal every week is a major support to her.

General Assembly Scholarships |
|
June 20-24, Kansas City, MO
General Assembly (GA) is the annual meeting of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA). Its programming includes open business meetings, workshops, worship services, an exhibit hall with displays from congregations, UUA departments, and other UU or UU-related organizations, and tons of other great events, meetings and fun programs! Thousands of UU children, youth and adults gather at GA every year. It has a contingent of youth, but it is not a youth conference.
The UUA has created new funding opportunities and processes to make it easier and more economically accessible for youth and young adults to attend GA.
