Please mark your calendar and plan to attend the SN-ICC Chapter Meeting scheduled for Thursday, April 12 at Sierra Gold on Jones Boulevard at Sunset Road.

The luncheon meeting will feature a presentation on tall wood code proposals by SN-ICC Past President Stephen DiGiovanni, PE, a fire protection engineer with Clark County Fire Prevention.

SN-ICC members can maximize the effectiveness of their membership by joining a chapter committee.

Committees include Education, EduCODE, Public Outreach, Communications and Membership.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED AT EDUCODE EVENT
 
Last year, volunteers provided significant assistance to the more than 1,000 attendees at the EduCODE conference and exposition at the Orleans. Pictured here is the busy registration area. 
 
Once again, SN-ICC calls upon its valued members to assist as volunteers at the EduCODE conference and exposition later this month at the Orleans Hotel & Casino.

The event is scheduled for March 19 through March 23. Set-up begins at noon March 18. Tear down is set for the afternoon of March 23.

If you can devote some time to volunteer to assist with various duties during the event, please contact EduCODE Director Alan Ellis at [email protected] or 702-265-2770.

With less than three weeks to go, more than 1,150 industry professionals have registered to attend the 4,284 class days at the educational conference. Three classes are already closed because of space concerns.

VENTILATION FOCUS OF CHAPTER MEETING 


There was a strong turn out for the February Chapter Meeting, which featured a presentation by Sherman Hamlett, sales manager at Fantech, about MakeUp Air Systems (MUAS) and the latest technology to move air from the outside into building interiors to replace air that is exhausted through ventilation or combustion.

Fantech is a leading manufacturer and distributor of ventilation products to improve air quality in residential and commercial applications.


At the luncheon, SN-ICC President Sam Palmer, right, on behalf of IAS President Chuck Ramani, presented a plaque to Past President Majid Pakniat.

The International Accreditation Service at ICC lauded Pakniat for his service to the council and the industry. Ramani was a guest speaker at the chapter's Installation and Awards Banquet in January.


Chapter meeting attendees heard an update about UNLV's entry in the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon Competition.

Dr. David James, associate professor of civil engineering and director of Solar and Renewable Energy Programs at UNLV, told the group that UNLV's Team Las Vegas took first place for Innovation and second place for both Engineering and Architecture. Overall, the team placed eighth among 11 national and international teams that competed.

SN-ICC contributed $35,000 over a two year period to the UNLV entry, which incorporated "aging in place" features and technologies to meet the needs of the aging population.

The award-winning demonstration home will be on display at the UNLV campus for three years, after which it will likely be sold.
