2018 Men's Conference - The Diocese of Venice extends an invitation to all men who desire to encounter the presence of God to attend the 2018 Diocese of Venice Men's Conference from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24 at Bishop Verot Catholic High School in Fort Myers. Cost in advance is $20 (pre-registration online), students $5 pre-registration. Cost at the door is $30, and $10 for students. Couples Celebrating Marriage - All couples celebrating 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, or more than 50 years of marriage are invited by Bishop Frank J. Dewane to an Anniversary Mass in their honor. The Anniversary Mass will be celebrated in two locations: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 17 at Epiphany Cathedral in Venice, and 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 10 at St. Leo the Great Parish in Bonita Springs. Death Penalty Prayer Vigils - Governor Rick Scott has scheduled a February 22 execution for Eric Scott Branch, a Death Row inmate convicted of the 1993 killing of Susan Morris in Pensacola. Prior to Branch's scheduled execution, Catholic faithful and other concerned Floridians will gather in prayer at locations around the state. Within the Diocese of Venice, prayer vigils will take place at the following locations on Thursday, February 22: St. Raphael Parish, 2514 Lee Blvd., Lehigh Acres; St. Joseph Parish, 3000 26th St. West, Bradenton; San Pedro Parish, 14380 Tamiami Trail, North Port; and Sacred Heart Parish, 211 West Charlotte Ave., Punta Gorda. Opioid Crisis Symposium - All are encouraged to attend the 11th Annual Humanity Working to End Genocide Symposium "OPIOID CRISIS: Is Your Family at Risk?" at 2:00 p.m., at the St. Martha Catholic School Zazarino Center, 4380 Fruitville Road, Sarasota. Sponsored by the Diocese of Venice, The Jewish Federation, The Sarasota Ministerial Association, and Drug Free Sarasota, the event will include a panel of area professionals who are prepared to answer the very difficult questions surrounding opioid use in our area. In addition, those who attend will hear the very personal story of one family's struggle. The event is
co-chaired by Bishop Frank J. Dewane, who will also deliver the invocation.

Flu precautions - With the flu season in full swing, all Diocese of Venice parishes/missions are being asked to take extra precautions to help mitigate the spread and effects of the flu. Once the health situation subsides, the new precautions will be revisited. Share the Journey Continues - The Diocese of Venice joins Pope Francis as he leads the worldwide, two-year "Share the Journey" campaign calling on Catholics and the faithful to 'encounter' migrants and refugees in an effort to break down barriers of fear, as well as to build bridges of understanding and hospitality. Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA), Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) are part of a global network participating in the campaign. 2018 Catechetical Day - Catechists and catechist aides in religious education programs as well as volunteers for adult faith formation and youth group programs are invited to this year's Catechetical Day themed, Come To Me All You Who Labor And Are Burdened, And I Will Give You Rest (Mt 11:28). You will hear talks by Dr. Matthew Halbach on Becoming A Parish of Mercy and Reverend Sean Monahan, O.M.V. on How to Live an Abundant Life and God Speaks to Us in the Desires of our Hearts. This will be a much-needed retreat-like day for those who serve in these ministries. Faith Formation Classes in Spanish - Registration for the Faith Formation Classes in Spanish is now open. Classes will be held on Fridays from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The cost is $25. This year the entire Catechism of the Catholic Church will be taught. Those who register and attend 80% of the classes will receive a diocesan certification. Our Lady of Perpetual Help Retreat Center
Monthly Day of Prayer - All are welcome to attend "Come to the Water, Day of Prayer" from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Ash Wednesday, February 14, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Retreat Center, 3989 S. Fort Myers Area - St. John XXIII Parish in Fort Myers hosts "Rooted", a Young Adult Program offering an opportunity to build Community. The group meets at 7:15 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month. This program is for ages 18-39, married, single, women, men, parishioners and non-parishioners. Sessions vary from praise and worship, events and adventure, bonfires, and social justice events. World Youth Day Pilgrimage: Panama 2019 - The Diocese of Venice has opened registration for the 2019 international pilgrimage to World Youth Day in Panama with Pope Francis! OUT AND ABOUT THE DIOCESE
Migrant Care Grants - Grant requests for funding of projects in 2018 are available now, and need to be submitted no later than March 1. To be considered by the Board of Directors for a Grant, the project must clearly be seen as a service to the migrant poor or new immigrants.  Preference will be given to those projects under Catholic auspices.  Applications can be submitted by going to the Migrant Poor Foundation page of the Diocesan website venicediocese.org/mpgrantrequest/index.html.  Full directions for the application as well as a Grant ID Number will be found there. If you had an approved grant last year, the Final Report for the 2017 Project must be submitted before February 20.
