The Friends of Tiverton Libraries will be hosting a new "John Fitzgerald Memorial History Program" on Thursday, March 22, at 6:30pm in the community room. In memory of John, who passed away in September, we have invited historian and author Christopher Daley to give a talk, "On the Trail of Bonnie & Clyde".
John loved history, so we think it is a fitting tribute to host a program in late March, his birthday month, and this evening looks to be fun and interesting.
Here is the speaker's description of the upcoming presentation:
This lecture, which is part travelogue and part history, will chronicle the story of Bonnie and Clyde separating the reality from the myth! For years the public has been fascinated with the story of this Dustbowl Romeo and Juliet.
However, much of what we know is mainly from the 1967 movie "Bonnie and Clyde" and more recently a highly fictionalized made for T.V. Movie shown on A&E & the History Channel. Much myth, conjecture and outright lies have grown up about the two Texas bandits but when one delves into the true story of the two lovers a much more interesting and human story emerges; much better than Hollywood was able to depict. This one hour lecture will tell that story through the use of period photographs and movies plus modern photographs and video shot by myself. I have traveled through the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma and Missouri on the "Trail of Bonnie and Clyde" photographing a making video of the sites of their homes, murders, robberies, shootouts and hideouts.
Along the way I met characters like L.J. "Boots" Hinton, the son of lawman Ted Hinton - a member of the posse that took down Bonnie & Clyde in 1934 and the mayor of dusty Kemp Texas who related a fascinating story of Bonnie's incarceration at the Kemp Calaboose. I drove over 4,000 miles in search of the real Bonnie and Clyde - I hope you will join me as I take you on the "Trail of Bonnie and Clyde."

Meditation & Brain Health
Wednesday, March 7 at 6:30 pm
Dr. Post will be returning to discuss meditation & brain health. This event is free and open to the public. After Dr. Post gives his talk he will conduct a simple seated meditation. No special clothing or equipment is needed. Free and open to the public. Registration is recommended.
Saturday, March 10th at 1:00 pm
In the Essential Oils 101 Class, you'll learn what essential oils are, why they work, how to use them, and which oils to start with. After the presentation, there will be make-and-take stations where you can try some mixes out. Includes 1 free make-and-take per participant.
Monday, March 19 at 6:30 pm
We will be having Kristin from Organizing in Rhode Island kick off spring cleaning with "Organize Your Closets".
Does your closet need an overhaul? Are you tired of stepping over clothes to get into your closet? Are you holding onto clothes from the 90's? Are you overwhelmed, stressed, or feeling stuck? Kristin MacRae, organizing & efficiency expert from Organizing in RI, will give you all the tips you need to get unstuck, organized, and energized! Free and open to the public. Registration required. Join us for a screening of Jackie, the story of Jackie Kennedy's life in the days directly following the assassination of her husband, John F. Kennedy. Popcorn will be provided, outside food/snacks welcome.

This is an informational program presented by EnrichRI geared towards families who are new to homeschooling, or are thinking about homeschooling their children. Learn about services and support available to homeschooling families through EnrichRI.

TEEN TECH WEEK March 4th - 10th
Each year the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) devotes an entire week to Teens and Tech called Teen Tech Week. Join us at the Tiverton Public Library for a week chock full of Techy activities for students in Grades 6 through 12.
- TEEN TECH WEEK: Maker/Taker
Monday, March 5th 3-5pm in the Teen Room
Make your own cellphone speakers
Join us in the Teen Room for a techy drop-in crafternoon activity. Come make a set of cellphone speakers out of some household items! All materials provided. No registration necessary.
- TEEN TECH WEEK: Hour of Code Tuesday, March 6th 6-7pm in the Teen Room
Join Rebecca the Teen Librarian and Sam the Technology Librarian for an Hour of Code activity! We will be using the computers in the Teen Room and laptops for a Make Your Own Laptop Hour of Code learning opportunity! Space is limited. Registration is required! Please sign up for this activity at the information desk! Activity is limited to students in Grades 6 through 12.
- Teen Advisory Board Tuesday, March 6th, 6-7pm in the Teen Room
Come hang out and discuss titles that you are reading, what you would like to see happen at the library, and eat some snacks! Earn a community service hour for attending! Attendance is limited to patrons in Grades 6 through 12.
- TEEN TECH WEEK: Bring Your Own Book Club *DIGITAL DISCUSSION EDITION* Thursday, March 8th, 6-7pm in the Teen Room
Bring your eReader, your tablet, your cellphone, or your iPod and learn all about all the fun AND FREE library things that you can do with it! We will be discussing eBooks and eAudiobooks on top of our normal "whatever you're reading" discussions. Bring whatever you're reading (have read) and discuss it (even better if you didn't like it!) with other readers. Snacks provided! Participation is limited to patrons in Grades 6 through 12.

- TEEN TECH WEEK: Build a Skill Saturday - BUTTON MAKING! Saturday, March 10th, Noon - 3pm in the Teen Room
Stop by the Teen Room starting Saturday, March 10th to make BITMOJI buttons. Use your BITMOJI from Snapchat or learn how to make a BITMOJI. Then print out a couple of images and make them into buttons using our button maker (you might know buttons as pins) that you can take home with you! Activity is limited to students in Grades 6 through 12. This is a drop-in activity, no registration is required.

Starting at High Noon. Bring your lunch and join us for a dine-in showing of Iron Man 3 projected on the big screen in our Community Room. Free popcorn and candy provided! Our Teen Movie showings are part of our Teen Program offerings but are open to all.
- Young Adult for "Adults" Book Club Tuesday, March 13th, 6-7:30pm in the Learning Center
Interested in a traditional book club? Want to talk about books? This is a traditional book club that meets on the second Tuesday evening of each month. It is a book group is intended for "older" teens and adults. This month's book selection is The Hate You Give by Angie Thomas, the Read Across Rhode Island book selection for 2018. Copies are available for check out at the library. Teens wishing to participate in this book club must be at least in high school to attend. See Rebecca with any questions.
- Anime & Manga Group Friday, March 16th, 3:30-4:30pm in the Teen Room
Monthly Anime & Manga meet up is still meeting! Join other interested teens in lively discussion, anime viewing, craft making, and snack eating! Attendance is limited to patrons in Grades 6 through 12.
- Maker/Taker Monday Arts & Crafts Lab Monday, March 19th, 2-8pm in the Teen Room
Join us after school for an Arts & Crafts Lab in the Teen Room. Supplies and instructions will be set out for the completion of a self-guided activity. Come and be creative! Or take the instructions home with you for later!
- Cubee Craft Thursday, March 29th, 2-8pm in the Teen Room
Cubee Craft action figure printouts will be available to make or take in the Teen Room from 2pm until 8pm. Come hang out and make an action figure or take a template home with you to complete at a later time. An assortment of characters will be made available.

Don't forget that you can borrow museum and activity passes with your library card to these local attractions: Blithewold, Coggeshall Farm Museum, New Bedford Whaling Museum, Children's Museum of Fall River, Providence Children's Museum, RISD and Newport Art Museums, Buttonwood Park and Roger Williams Park Zoos, Norman Bird Sanctuary and the Audubon Environmental Education Center, and Mystic Aquarium. In an effort to support early childhood education, Hooray for Languages is collaborating with

An Egg-cellent Day at the Tiverton Public Library
Saturday, March 31st from 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Hop on over to the children's activity room on March 31st between 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. for an egg-citing craft and an egg-traordinary hunt through the library.
This activity is designed for ages 3 - 10.

The Tiverton Public Library continues to offer eBooks, digital audiobooks and streaming video available to enjoy from the library's website. Library cardholders from any library within the Ocean State Libraries consortium can borrow popular digital media anytime, anywhere by visiting http://riezone.lib.overdrive.com.
Users may browse the library's website, borrow titles with a valid library card, and start reading, listening or watching on all major computers and devices, including iPhone®, iPad®, Nook®, Android™ phones and tablets, and Kindle®. Many titles can be enjoyed immediately on any device with an internet browser or downloaded into the free OverDrive app. All titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period. There are no late fees!

Basic Internet Class at the Tiverton Public Library

Are you an internet novice in need of more information on how the web works? If so, sign up for the Internet Basics Class! Learn internet terms and how to navigate a browser, locate a website, identify common domains, and stay safe while surfing the web.
Prerequisite: must know how to use a computer mouse and keyboard. If you need help with this, then please contact Sam to set up a one-on-one appointment.
