The Legal Side of Trademarks and Branding
In 2017, two significant US trademark registration cases were decided against the United States government and in favor of the people.  However, for most companies looking to build and protect brands, these cases, while legally significant, may have very little impact.
 


Are you worried about how the new Tax Act may affect your business? 

The much discussed federal "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act" includes many changes that may affect businesses of all sizes. The Conference Report transmitting the new law is over 1,000 pages, and the legislation itself exceeds 500 pages. IN THE NEWS

Welcome to our new staff! In January we had two new employees join the firm: Michael Weiland officially joined the Business Transactional and Real Estate Group, with a focus on Zoning Land Use issues, and  Kelly Spore  has transitioned into the Director of Marketing and Business Relations role as Krysta Huxford has decided to pursue her passion of pilates.

Cheryl Brown was recently elected to the Maryland SHRM State Council, Inc. as the Governmental Affairs Director.  Maryland SHRM is an affiliate of the Society for Human Resources Management  ( SHRM).  SHRM is the world's largest HR professional society.  Maryland SHRM is comprised of 10  local chapters throughout the state of Maryland.  As the Governmental Affairs Director, Cheryl tracks all legislation that impacts the HR professions and provides education, thought leadership and advocacy to enhance the effectiveness of the HR profession in Maryland.

For over the last three years, Angela Grau has served on a Guardianship Work Group formed to advise the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals on policy issues.  As a direct result of the work accomplished by this group, new Maryland Rules have recently been adopted which include eligibility and training requirements for court-appointed counsel and guardians of person and property.  Angela has also been intimately involved in the development of the curricula for the new trainings, and has presented at live and recorded trainings sponsored by the Maryland Judiciary and other stakeholders.
