Gustav Mahler's Liebst Du Um Schonheit (If You Love for Beauty), one of five lieder composed by Mahler and based on the poems of Friedrich Ruckert. The first four were released together in 1901. The fifth, reportedly composed for Mahler's wife Anna in 1902, is an exquisite gem and has become a favorite of the chamber singers as they rehearse the repertoire for this concert.
The arrangement is by a young and innovative Slovenian composer, Nana Forte. While Mahler's original composition was arranged for voice and instruments, such as oboes, clarinets, violins, cello, etc., Ms. Forte's arrangement is

for double choir. The voices are the instruments in this arrangement. We think it allows the simple beauty of the themes and poetry to shine through. Our musical director has found for us an offering which we think will become a favorite for singers and audience alike.

Please join us on January 28. We will be singing a varied program on the themes of love from the 14th century through today, from Monteverdi to Cole Porter and Paul McCartney. Come in out of the cold and don't miss it!
