A Message from the Principal...
Dear St. Louis Families,

What a week! I'm exhausted, so there was definitely a lot of "raising the praise" going on around here!

The children certainly love all the fun we have around here during Catholic Schools Week... and at the same time, I know that we are instilling in them service-focused, Christian faith-filled values, and a lifetime of great memories with each activity.  In addition to collecting toiletry items for the Alexandria Carpenter's Homeless Shelter, students raised a lot of money for the student council, Mrs. Dyke and myself to be slimed! They raised well over $1,500 (our largest amount raised!), with funds going towards the Prayers and Squares Quilt Ministry, the Poor Clares, and United Community Ministries - - what a gift!  I look forward to the grand finale of CSW - - the Silent Auction!  I am so grateful to Emily Chuma and the entire auction committee for their hard work and dedication to making this a successful event. They have been planning, meeting, soliciting and organizing for the past several months, and the children will benefit tremendously.

Report cards are going home in folders today... yes, we are now in the 3rd quarter!  Please sign the report cards and return them to teachers next week. For students in grades K-2, a copy of your HMH Math Inventory report is included with the report card; for students in grades 3 - 7, the Scantron Performance Series report will not be going home until next week (the Diocese was delayed in reporting by one week).

Peace,

Kathleen McNutt
Principal

Great News to Share!
Often people ask about our school test scores and how we are doing. We are blessed with a diverse community of learners, and we take students from wherever they are academically and help them grow throughout their years here. With strong curriculum and instruction, our eighth graders show us how far they've come at St. Louis through their National High School Placement Test (HSPT) results. Below is the 2018 Diocesan average from the High School Placement Test compared to the St. Louis average. The Diocese of Arlington always scores high as a whole, so St. Louis was certainly a shining star this year:

Spirit Dinner - February 7 & 8
Firehouse Subs is the place to be on February 7-8 for our next Spirit Dinner! This is an all day event both days, noon - 9pm. That means you can go for lunch and dinner and really help out the PTO. Think of the collection of fire hats you can have in your home! Hmmm, maybe don't think about that. Rather, come on out for a great variety of subs and help support your PTO! It is a great place for a quick dinner that is not fried food. Easy to work this in between basketball practices. See you there. Bring the flyer or be sure to mention ST LOUIS when you order.
PTO Volunteer Hours
Attached is the updated list of completed PTO volunteer hours as of January 31, 2018.  If your name is on the list, that means your family has met the complete requirement of 18 hours for a two-parent family or 9 hours for a single parent family. If your name does not appear on the list and you have met the requirement, please email Vanessa Milewski ([email protected]) to make sure your hours are recorded. Thank you for your time and dedication to our school. Your involvement and help are what make St. Louis School a wonderful community.
Thank You from the PTO
To all of our St. Louis Community, THANK YOU! Catholic Schools Week was a huge success thanks to all of you. We could not have done it without your generous support and donations.

special thank you to Krystle Island of Bag Lady Catering who made all of our wonderful muffins on Wednesday morning. A heartfelt thank you to the many volunteers who arrived early in the morning to help make it a smooth and fun start to the day!

The Carpenter Shelter was truly appreciative of the toiletry bags that will be given to those in need. Thank you for your support. It was such a wonderful experience to watch our elementary school students bag the items, and the middle school's "chain of mercy" as they loaded cars for delivery! Thank you to the parent volunteers who helped make the project a true success!
Service Dogs of VA was so very appreciative of the money raised for the service dogs. Sally and her canine companion, Montra, did a wonderful presentation for the students. Ask your students about Montra's ability to pick up a credit card! Thank you for your support for the service dogs!
Friday was a chance to thank the teachers and staff for all they do for our students. Thank you to the army of volunteers who filled our school halls and rooms! Without you, the luncheon is not possible. Thank you so much for your time and support! We truly appreciate it!
Finally, a very special thank you goes out to Mimi Calogero and the teacher team for all of the countless hours preparing for such a great week! Without Mrs. Calogero, Catholic Schools Week would not be what it is today! She is a blessing to the St. Louis School Community. In addition, thank you to the PTO committee chairs who dedicated much of their time since last October organizing such a wonderful week! Without their many, many hours of time and effort this week would not have been as smooth or fun for our St. Louis students, teachers and staff. My heart overflows with gratitude for them. Thank you so very much to Missy Breen, Ginny Gipp, Carolyn Koch, Lisa Blaha, Dana McGuckin, Heather Allard, Matt Spierenburg, Amy Kirner and Beth Burke. You deserve much credit and thanks! You did such an amazing job and I cannot say thank you enough!
