Q: Briefly describe the best job or study abroad experience you've ever had.
Ms. Jenni
Probably the most fun job I ever had was working at the drive-in theatre that is 2 miles from my parents' house back in Iowa. I started working there while in high school, and worked there during summers in college. I got to see lots of free movies, loved working the old-fashioned popcorn machine, and all these years later, am still in touch with the owners. I think they'd hire me back if I asked!
Ms. Nneka
The best time I had abroad was in graduate school when I traveled to Ghana. Nigeria and Mali, West Africa to study dance, music and culture. It was during this time that I was able to reflect and be present and in the moment with every experience. During this trip I was also able to visit my family in Nigeria and learn about my culture and family history.
In college I studied abroad two times, once in France (for 8 months) and once in Nepal (for 15 months). In both places I had the opportunity to live with families and was forced to speak the language on a daily basis. While this was challenging, these experiences changed my life and my perspective on the world!!
Ms. Fenise
A great job experience I had was working as a job readiness trainer. I worked with older adults who were returning to the workforce after losing manufacturing jobs. I traveled to a new city every week, delivered a 3-4 day workshop to 15-20 students and then returned home. It allowed me to design my own curriculum, travel around the state, meet tons of new people, have a fantastic schedule and income; while teaching some of the nicest and most appreciative students. I learned a great deal from them and the experience as a whole.

A great job experience that I had was when I worked as a Summer Youth Director during college. There was one particular young girl who unbeknownst to me was suffering from low self esteem, and as part of our youth summer soccer game/league I helped her gain a great deal of confidence in herself by making her the star player. She led the league in scoring. Years later I ran into her and she talked about how that summer changed her life. I was 20 years old at the time and was not thinking about how I was actually impacting these young kids. (Glad it was positive.)
Ms. Courtney
I studied abroad for a month in college in San Pedro, Costa Rica, which is right outside of San José, with my best friend. We arrived on New Year's Eve and had so much fun celebrating and bringing in the New Year with our host mom and her extended family. In addition to taking a Spanish course, I went hiking, visited a live volcano, took a tour of the most beautiful waterfalls, and went to Manuel Antonio National Park, where the beaches were amazing and I saw a sloth up close and personal.

In college, I was able to study in Prague in the Czech Republic. I lived with a couple of Americans but also with a native Czech. Living with him was an easy and comfortable way to share cultures and it helped with my acquisition of the language. To this day, my favorite word is smrzlina (ice cream, in English). Who knew that many consonants could follow each other!
Mr. Sean
My best job experience was when I worked at DePaul University. I say this because the institution not only stayed true to its Vincentian identity by supporting those students who were not financially, academically, or socially prepared for college, but DePaul also placed an emphasis on employee engagement and retention. This was demonstrated by the extensive number of employee support programs offered and the generous amount of paid time off given to all full-time staff.

What is experiential learning? Simply put it is the reflective process of learning through an experience. Through opportunities of experiential learning, students have the chance to apply their knowledge outside of the classroom while also learning new skills and values that are related to their (career) fields of interest.
There are many experiential learning opportunities available on college campuses, such as
internships, studying abroad, co-ops, and service learning activities. While all of these experiential learning options are great, one stands out when it comes to securing a job after college - internships! And do you know a great place you could access a plethora of internship and job opportunities? YES, that's right -- your university's spring career and internship fair!
Here are some tips for how to make the most of your school's career and internship fair!
Before: During:
- Plan ahead! If possible, check online to see which companies and organizations will be attending the career fair.
- Make a list of the companies you're interested in, prioritize who you'll likely visit first, then do some research on your favorite companies.
- Go to the Career Center to have your resume reviewed and print several copies to take with you, along with a notepad on the day of the fair.
- Practice introducing yourself and your career interests so that you have a solid introduction down when you visit different company tables.
- Dress professionally- you should be dressed to impress!

- Now it's time to put your plan to action! Spend your time wisely. Set aside at least an hour or so to make sure you visit each of the companies on your list.
- Try to visit one of your low-priority companies first so that you can get practice sharing your introduction before talking with your top-priority company.
- If there's a long line to speak to one company, go to another on your list and return later. Remember first impressions are everything - shake their hand firmly, with good eye contact, and remain confident.
- Take notes when needed. If you're having a good conversation with a company representative, offer to show them your resume. If that say no that's okay. Make sure to get their business card so you can thank them and follow up later.

After: Follow up! Take notes about the companies you visited and the people with whom you spoke. Send a thank you note to all of your top-priority companies' representatives within 24 hours. Try to mention something specific about the conversation you had. For companies of particular interest, do more research to see when they'll be visiting campus again for information sessions or on-campus interviews.
