"Love all men for Jesus' sake, but Jesus for Himself. Jesus Christ alone is to be loved with an especial love, for He alone is the best and most faithful of friends. In Him and for His sake love both friend and foe, and pray to Him for all of them, that all may know and love Him."

Future City
O n January 13, 2018, two teams of St. Anthony on the Lake 8th graders competed in the Regional Future City Competition held at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Kern Center. The teams were:
Iris: Grace Packee, Jack Wimmer, Isabel Wallschlaeger, Sydney Nelson,
Ethan Flanagan, Koy Moseler, Alexzandria Vieaux, and Henry Ogden.
Serendipity: Emily Nell, Sydney Landry, Alex Nines, Macy Otto, Tyler Tusing,
Jake Miller, Anders Beckes, Cami Utter and Belle Lenske

Future City Competition is a project based learning program where students "imagine, research, design, and build cities of the future." The students worked in teams with educators Dawn Duellman-Arndt and Sue Kahler and engineer mentor, Jim Buggs. Students followed the engineering design process and project management to incorporate solutions to an "authentic, real-world question." The challenge for this year, was "the Age-Friendly City," Students had to "identify an issue older people have and engineer two innovative solutions so they can remain active and independent."
Over a four-month period, each team created a virtual city using SimCity software, researched and wrote solutions to an engineering problem, built scale models with recycled materials, and presented their models and solutions to a panel of judges.
Congratulations to team Serendipity who won 4th place at Wisconsin Regional Future City Competition. Iris and Serendipity competed against more than 60 middle school teams. Both of our teams worked countless hours planning, building, writing, and practicing throughout the competition process. We are very proud of both teams' accomplishments.
