SC Power Team's statewide, comprehensive labor study, Project Pioneer , data collection and processing closed in late 2017. The findings will be delivered by Josh Bays, Principal of Site Selection Group at our annual Economic Development Review.
Dear Colleagues,

2017 was year-four of our 5-Year Strategic Blueprint. Our system is proud to report we have surpassed our 5-year metrics in capital investment and new jobs. As we begin 2018, we are only seven percent shy of being 100 percent of our 5-year metric for installed capacity. These achievements could not be possible without significant support from our Board of Trustees, electric cooperative family, and our economic development allies.

Two achievements that our team was recognized for in 2017 include the National Rural Economic Developers Association (NREDA) Organization Excellence Award for our efforts in rural development associated with our Site Readiness initiative and the  SAG Award (Special Achievement in Geographic Information System  technology) from Esri. These acknowledgements are most rewarding because the Site Readiness Fund initiative which committed $30 million in matching grants towards rural development, and the GIS web applications are direct results of significant investments made by our board. Their investment is in you, the people we serve and our economic development partners. A commitment towards growing your communities, through job creation and making data-rich, research reporting capabilities available to our stakeholders. We are grateful for the recognition and level of dedication from our Board of Trustees.

Project Pioneer, our statewide labor study launched in March 2017, has come to a close.  Site Selection Group, our consultant group conducting the study, has been working to develop 46 reports, providing data and findings for each respective county's economic hub(s). We will be sharing the key findings with our partners and allies during the Economic Development Review in March 2018.  We appreciate all of our industrial customer participation, as well as assistance from our local economic developers and electric cooperative partners, and the efforts conducted by Site Selection Group.

Our team enjoyed another Jubilee in Charleston, our annual December partnership with Garden & Gun magazine, in which we host site selection consultants to showcase our state's offerings and SC Power Team's business development incentives. Our "Staying Power" featured advertisement in the magazine's December/January Issue illustrated the longevity of the electric cooperatives, our commitment to resources and serving as a utility partner to our industrial customers.

Congratulations is in order to our Board Chairman, Bob Paulling, for his dedication and leadership which was recognized by the Columbia Business Monthly in the January Issue. He was included in the distinguished list of Top 50 Most Influencial for the Midlands area.

One of my greatest joys as president and CEO, is welcoming a new member to the power team family. Congratulations is in order to our Senior Project Manager, Jason Speake, and his wife Lindsey, on their new family member, Annabelle Rose. She was born in late November and has already made a visit to our office for introductions.

Many of you were able to join us for our annual corporate Christmas drop-in last month. Thank you for making the trip to Columbia and enjoying fellowship with our team. We appreciate  our colleagues, allies and partners for working with our team throughout the year.

From your partners in progress and prosperity , we anticipate even greater things to come.

Sincerely,

President and CEO

One of South Carolina's most nimble manufacturers of custom printed products is located a short distance from Columbia Metropolitan Airport in West Columbia. RECCO Tape & Label, Inc. is a privately held printer with unique capabilities.

"A primary differentiator for RECCO is lead-times on orders," said Matt Pedersen, sales/service for RECCO. "The speed with which we can take an order to product is among the fastest in the printing industry."

Another pillar of RECCO's success and growth - the company began in the early 70s in 700 sq. ft. of leased space and now occupies a 17,000 sq. ft. facility with 23 employees - is its person-to-person customer service. "Dialogue is critical to successful completion of printing projects," said Pedersen. "Our customers know that real people are managing and fulfilling their orders from start to finish, resulting in products that consistently meet specifications and timetables."

RECCO serves a worldwide customer base including many Tier I and Tier II manufacturers. Their extensive product portfolio includes the printing of pressure sensitive labels, custom overlays and nameplates for equipment control panels, heat transfer parts for rubber substrates, metal nameplates and many other products. laborSTATEWIDE LABOR STUDY - PROJECT PIONEER
SC POWER TEAM TO SHARE RESULTS AT EDR
In March of 2017, the South Carolina Power Team launched an effort to strengthen the characteristics of the state's workforce with the help of Site Selection Group, a location advisory and economic incentives firm. This effort was a comprehensive, statewide labor study, "Project Pioneer." We will be sharing results with our economic development partners and allies at our annual Economic Development Review in March 2018.

The research and data collected will enable counties across our state to articulate their labor story, identify skills gaps, and better serve industrial customers with workforce needs. In our commitment to support economic development efforts across South Carolina and throughout our electric cooperative territories, SC Power Team's Board of Trustees funded the labor study making it one of our key components of our Five-year Strategic Blueprint.  Once the study is complete, these findings will be accessible on the SCPowerTeam.com website with similar reporting capabilities as offered by our GIS components.
