Two New Developments Announced for the District
Two major development projects have been announced for the Fashion District. The first, a creative office campus on Los Angeles Street, was announced by Urban Offerings. The 250,000-squre-foot project includes the Norton Building at 755 S Los Angeles St and the former Dearden's building at 7th and Main Streets. The second, a 149-room hotel room planned for the corner of Los Angeles Street and Olympic Boulevard, was announced by Jamison Services, Inc. Jamison filed plans to convert the structure at 124 E Olympic Blvd. As per Urbanize.la, "The project represents the fourth office-to-hotel conversion for the Fashion District in the past four years, joining ongoing projects such as the Hoxton and Proper Hotels, and the already-complete Ace Hotel."

Homeless Encampment Clean-Ups and Increase in Fires
The BID continues to work with the City of Los Angeles and Council District 14 to address homeless encampment-related issues in the Fashion District. Most recently the Department of Sanitation cleaned the alley located at 1400 S Los Angeles St. The 11th Street alley between Wall and San Julian Streets was also cleaned. 3,000 lbs. of trash were removed from the 11th Street alley alone.
The Fashion District has seen an increase in alley encampments which has brought additional problems to the area. Businesses that depend on these alleyways can't receive deliveries or have their trashed picked up. As the encampments grow, they create health and fire hazards for the entire community. In fact, the BID recorded 70 fires in the district in 2017, 10% of which caused building damage. In response to the increase in fires, the BID Board of Directors wrote a letter to the Mayor's Office asking for additional Fire Department resources for the Fashion District.
The BID will continue to make daily calls and reports to the City and demand that the City provide additional resources for our area.

It will focus on topics our stakeholders have requested including: BID services, clean and safety issues, marketing efforts, City communications, and economic development updates.

Enjoy food, flowers, and fresh produce at The Wall Farmer's Market every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The farmer's market sets up in front of the flower markets on Wall Street between 7th and 8th Streets.

The Los Angeles Street Streetscape Project is a $1.77-million makeover that will add pedestrian improvements to Los Angeles Street from 7th Street to Olympic Boulevard.
