Hello February!
This month, the library is celebrating Black History Month with the return of the incredibly popular Nubian Heritage Quilters Guild displaying their work. We are also hosting the
Three Views
theatrical production with a dramatic performance by actor Gary Edison featuring live music and dance from the Harlem Renaissance period.
The Youth Services Department's story times and book clubs for different age groups run throughout the month, providing great opportunities to add to your child's growth and learning. Sunday, February 18, the West Orange High School's Chinese Club will host their annual family-friendly Chinese New Year Celebration from 2:00-4:00 PM here at the library. The event will include a puppet show, face painting, and more. The Reference Department continues its successful Tech Help Drop-In Hours on Thursdays from 2:00-4:00 PM with library volunteer Sam. We also look forward to a February completion date of the digitization of the West Orange High School Year Books through the graduating year of 2017.
Last month the Circulation Department did an amazing job with the transition to the new delivery system for book requests. We greatly appreciate your patience during this bumpy drive! Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, we are once again unable to place reserves for materials. The BCCLS Executive Board is working to rectify this as quickly as possible. In the meantime, the library will have a "visiting collection," or books returned from other owning libraries, available for you to browse and check out. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

...In January, former Governor Christie signed the Johnson Bill (A-1427/S-2633) which allows towns the option to vote to increase funding for municipal libraries. Please call the Reference Department, 973.736.0196, if you have any questions about what this could mean for you and West Orange.

Consumer Reports: Question of the Month:
“What aerobic exercise can I do at home when it’s too cold, slippery, or dark to walk outdoors?
One easy idea: March in place while you watch TV. In a study of 58 sedentary adults (middle-age and older), those who stepped in place or walked around the room during the commercials during 90 minutes of TV added about 3,000 steps to their day....”
