CHICAGO CHEFS SPEAK UP ABOUT SEXUAL HARASSMENT IN THE RESTAURANT INDUSTRY
Last month, a panel of 12 women in Chicago's restaurant industry - chefs, owners, sommeliers, a beverage director, and a PR consultant - gathered for a closed-to-the-public round table to discuss sexual harassment and misconduct within the workplace. The group - a cross section of ethnicities and experiences - was put  together by the Chicago Tribune  to address the #MeToo movement, to share their challenges, and to offer advise. Carrie Nahabedian of  Brindille  and Naha and Sarah Stegner of  Prairie Grass Cafe  were among the panelists that talked about what men should do, gaslighting, and how different beauty standards for women affect the industry.   Read more...

COMED AWARDS $1 MILLION GRANT TO ILLINOIS CENTRAL COLLEGE FOR SOLAR TECH TRAINING PROGRAM
ComEd (Anne Pramaggiorerecently awarded a $1 million grant to Illinois Central College (ICC) to start a solar technician training program. The training includes job readiness and soft skills instruction, and students will participate in over 58 hours of work-based learning at partnering businesses. Students receive a weekly stipend of $10 per hour while enrolled in the program.  

"ComEd is committed to helping grow renewable energy in Illinois and equally dedicated to developing the workforce of the future who will help integrate more clean energy like solar, into the Illinois energy grid," ComEd President and CEO Anne Pramaggiore said. Read more...
LORI ANDREWS TALKS TO OXYGEN ABOUT THE DISTURBING NEW TREND OF "PERFORMANCE CRIMES"
Lori Andrews, a Social Media Expert who appeared on the episode "Death By Social Media" and a professor at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law where she teaches a law school classes on social media, recently talked more with Oxygen about the disturbing new trend of "performance crimes."  Lori mentions celebrity culture as the reason for people wanting to post their crimes on social media. "We live in a celebrity culture," Lori Andrews said. "People used to admire leaders who took action to better the public good. THOSE CLOSE TO AND IN RETIREMENT STILL FEELING UNPREPARED
Anna Rappaport, was quoted in an article about the Society of Actuaries (SOA)'s ninth biennial Risks and Process of Retirement Survey, which identified an overall increase in consumers' level of concern for their finances both prior to and during retirement in 2017.
 
"I am encouraged to see pre-retirees and retirees alike taking steps to mitigate these risks, such as eliminating debt, saving money and cutting back on spending. But I am still concerned that there is not a greater focus on long-term planning, risk management, or dealing with the major uncertainties of life,"  said Anna Rappaport, fellow of the SOA and chair of the SOA's Committee on Post-Retirement Needs and Risks.
