We hope to see you Sunday!
5th Sunday after Epiphany

In Isaiah it is the one God who sits above the earth and numbers the stars—it is that God who strengthens the powerless. So in Jesus’ healing work we see the hand of the creator God, lifting up the sick woman to health and service (διακονία or ministry). Like Simon’s mother-in-law, we are lifted up to health and diakonia. Following Jesus, we strengthen the powerless; like Jesus, we seek to renew our own strength in quiet times of prayer.

The creator of all cares for the powerless

Psalm 147:1-11, 20c
The Lord heals the brokenhearted.
1 Corinthians 9:16-23
A servant for the sake of the gospel

Mark 1:29-39
The healing of Peter’s mother-in-law
First Sunday Refreshments
Please bring an item for First Sunday refreshments. We want to have plenty of sustenance for the Souper Bowl trivia rounds! Worship and Witness team
This Sunday is our final collection day and Jeopardy "Halftime" show between services!
Souper Bowl Sunday IS THIS SUNDAY! This is your final chance to support your team (your section of pews) and show God's love in Christ to others! Donations will go to Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio food pantries.

This Sunday during the 9:45am Sunday School hour you are invited to come and play a trivia game with Pastor Aaron to get in those last minute points while having a good time! (FYI, everything that has mentioned in sermons and Adult Sunday School from the month of January are fair game)

As of last Sunday, the gap separating the Pugnacious Preacher and the Lightning Lutherans has widened to 912 points.
Discipleship Challenge of the Week
Putting our faith into action and growing deeper in our relationship with God is something that every follower of Christ should crave. Each week in this E-Herald, we will include a tip or challenge to help you in your spiritual maturity.

This Week's Tip:
In the movie, "A Few Good Men" there is a Marine Corp code that is talked about. In the movie it went like this: Unit, Corp, God, Country. Their code was their list of priorities. ( see that scene here)
What is your code? What is your list of priorities? Does your list match how you actually live your life? Is that list the biblical?
Did You Know?
The PRELUDE is specially planned to go along with the readings and music of our Sunday morning worship. It is a time for reflection and contemplation as we prepare ourselves for worship. Please use this time to prayerfully ready yourselves
to receive the Good News of Our Lord and Savior.
Ash Wednesday on February 14
Drive Up Ashes from 11am-1pm.
Worship at 7:00pm
This year Valentine’s Day, is also Ash Wednesday.

Two things that seem so...opposite.

But we know that God is found in the opposite.
God gives pardon through confession.
Empowerment through surrender.
In emptiness, God fills.
In devastation, hope.
God walks with the lonely.
And when the world turns in on itself, God turns us back to what's important: God and our neighbors. Even from the grave, God brings forth life.

Yes it may seem like an odd pairing, but maybe Ash Wednesday and Valentine’s Day really do belong together. For when we receive a cross on our forehead, we are reminded of God's love.
It was once said,
"If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading."

The season of Lent is a perfect time to make sure your path matches God's direction. For more information about our Midweek Lenten series as well as our Soup Suppers, click here.

During the month of January the Adult Sunday School class, which meets in the Fellowship Hall on Sundays from 9:45-10:45am, will be doing a weekly variety study entitled, The Wired Word.

Each Thursday Pastor Layne emails the class a Bible Study that is based on current events from the past week. Full of passages from the Bible and questions for discussions, we study together about how to apply our faith in real ways to current topics ripped from the headlines.
To join our weekly email Bible Study, contact Pastor Aaron Layne. We hope that you will enjoy these studies and join us for class throughout January!
