A Message from the Superintendent

Today the University Interscholastic League (UIL) announced the district alignment for the next two years. Our football district is as follows:

Our Volleyball and Basketball district is as follows:

The remaining sports will be released this month; however, with the exception of wrestling and swimming, it is likely the districts in those sports will match the district for both volleyball and basketball. Additionally, UIL districts for academic competitions have not yet been announced.

Parents and Students Invited
to Attend Food Show


This Friday, February 2nd, Lovejoy Student Nutrition Services will be holding a food show in the Sloan Creek Intermediate School cafeteria from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Students and parents from all schools are invited to stop by and visit the food vendor booths to sample new foods and help select new items for the school lunch menus.


Upcoming 2018 Primary Elections
February 5th Deadline to Register


Texas Voter Registration Applications are available in the front office of all campuses and at the Administration Building. The application may be used for a new application, a change of address, name or other information, or to request a replacement card.
 
February 5th is the deadline to register if you plan to vote in the March 6th primary. Early voting begins on February 20th, and Election Day is March 6th. In past primary elections, approximately 20% of registered voters voted. In many races, the actual contest is in the primary as the November general election is a foregone conclusion. Our PTA is providing some additional information below.

March 2nd

Back by popular demand, the 3rd Annual Taste of Fairview will be presented by Estate Life Magazine in partnership with the Allen Fairview Chamber, Heritage Ranch Golf and Country Club, and the Foundation for Lovejoy Schools.
 
What: 3rd Annual Taste of Fairview with over 30 local restaurants, wine and spirits
Where: Heritage Ranch Golf and Country Club

Why: All ticket sales donated to the Foundation for Lovejoy Schools
 
Last year's event was a sell-out, with more than 500 attendees helping to raise more than $17,000 for the Foundation for Lovejoy Schools.

Denim and Diamonds - Lone Starry Night

Preparations for the Foundation for Lovejoy Schools' Denim and Diamonds Gala and Auction are underway and we need your help to make this event a success.  Click here for complete details regarding the different ways you may help.

The Foundation for Lovejoy Schools will host a raffle for Denim and Diamonds with three drawings for the following prizes:

Exciting New Online Auction Item
The Foundation for Lovejoy Schools' online auction this year will be replacing Class Masterpieces with individual Grade Level Spring Fling Socials. Don't miss your chance to get a ticket when the online auction goes live on February 27th.
 
Things to Know:  
  • Spring Fling Socials will be for grades K-4 
  • K-3 Spring Fling Socials will take place in gyms at Hart, Lovejoy, and Puster Elementary schools 
  • 4th graders from all elementary campuses will be combined at the Sloan Creek Intermediate gym 
  • You will be able to buy a $20 ticket per child for attendance

Annual Appeal

The Foundation for Lovejoy Schools would like to say thank you to the community for your generous support of the Annual Appeal giving campaign. As of December 31, 2017, the campaign raised $211,280 from 577 donors.

Without you, we could not carry out our mission to enhance the educational experience for Lovejoy students and staff. 

Athletic News


Lovejoy Boys Basketball

The Varsity was defeated 43-47 at Wylie East. The Leopards were led in scoring by Kolby McSpadden with 11 points. Luke Ledebur added 10 points, and Carson Holden chipped in 9 points.
 
The Junior Varsity team played a tough district game on the road and came home with the win. The Leopards were led in scoring by Harper Pool with 16 points, Owen Abramson with 12 points, and Jared Langs with 10 points. The Junior Varsity won 56-49. The JV team is now 7-2 in district.
 
The Junior Varsity Red team lost their matchup with Highland Park's Sophomore team 45-66.
 
The freshmen basketball team had another convincing win against Wylie East Friday night 79-26. Jeremy van Riper led in scoring with 22 points. The freshmen advance to 8-0 in district and look to continue their winning streak.
 
Upcoming games are at Mesquite Poteet on February 2nd with JV and Freshman games at 5:30 PM and Varsity at 7:00 PM. 

Lovejoy Girls Basketball

The Lady Leopards clinched a spot in the state playoffs.  The first playoff game will be on February 12th or 13th.  The Lady Leopards will play their last home game of the season this Friday at Lovejoy High School vs Mesquite Poteet.  Both JV teams play at 5:30 PM, followed by the varsity at 7:00 PM. 
 
Seniors and their parents will be recognized prior to the varsity game.  We hope to see you at the game as we recognize our seniors and cheer our teams on to victory. 


Lovejoy Golf
 
The Leopard Golf Teams will return to the links this month, beginning with the following Tournaments:
 
Girls: Rockwall Athletic Club, February 6th
Boys: JV 2 & 3, Duck Creek in Garland, February 7th
Boys: Varsity 1 & 2, Rockwall Athletic Club, February 9th and 10th
Boys: JV 1, Heritage Ranch, February 13th
 

Lovejoy Powerlifting
 
The Lovejoy Boys and Girls powerlifting teams traveled to North Forney High School to compete in the North Forney Invitational Meet on January 27th.  Ally Carraway led the girls with a 1st place finish in the 148 lb class with Personal Records (PRs) set in all three lifts.  She had a 735 lb total and was awarded lifter of the meet under 165 lbs.
 
On the boys side, Hunter Smith set PRs in all three lifts and had a 615 lb total in the 132 lb class. Ryan Collins set PRs in all three lifts and finished 4th.  He had a total of 785 lbs in the 148 lb class.  Also in the 148lb class, Ethan Cowan set PRs in squat and deadlift with a total of 685 lbs.  Brock Prengler had a great showing, winning his first meet of the year in the 220 lb class.  He improved his total to 1345 lbs, and set PRs in squat and deadlift.  James Rainey competed in his first meet of the year in the 220 lb class.  He finished 5th and had an 1100 lb total.  James Ayers competed in his first meet of the year in the 114 lb class.  He finished first and had a total of 810 lbs.  He was awarded lifter of the meet in all weight classes below 165 lbs.
 
Overall, the Leopard Powerlifting boys finished 5th out of 15 teams.  They all competed well and set many personal records.  The boys and girls are off for two weeks and will go to their next meet on February 10th at Castleberry High School in Ft. Worth.


Lovejoy Boys Soccer
 
The Junior Varsity and Varsity teams started their defense of the 15-5A district championship against Highland Park at LHS on Tuesday. The varsity team secured a 2-1 win, and JV secured a 3-0 win.
 
On Friday, February 2nd, the Junior Varsity and Varsity teams will play West Mesquite at AC New Middle School at 5:30 PM and 7:30 PM. Please join us in supporting the teams. 



Lovejoy Girls Soccer
 
The Lady Leopards Soccer team played Frisco Lebanon Trail. The young leopards went into the break tied 1-1 with Lebanon Trail after a hard-fought competitive half.  The girls were unable to hold off the Frisco team in the second half, as they finished with a final score of 5-1.


Lovejoy Swim and Dive
 
The Swim team will have 26 swimmers at the Regional competition this weekend, which is a record for the program. The Leopards will face off this Friday and Saturday at the Frisco ISD Natatorium in what has become the fastest region in class 5A.
 
The Leopards return two state qualifiers, Juniors Natalie Womack and James Vaughn, who each broke school records on their way to state last year. Joined by Senior Raime Jones and Sophomore Jed Jones, the four lead the team with the best chances to qualify in individual events for state.
 
To date, the team has combined for close to 200 lifetime best performances, as well as 2 new school records through District Championships last weekend. The ultimate goal is to surpass the standard set last season. In the 2016-17 season, the girl's team finished Regionals in 3rd place, sending 2 girls to state in individual events as well as two relays. The boys finished Regionals in 11th place, sending one boy to state in individual events.

Lovejoy Tennis
 
The Varsity tennis team kicked off the 2018 spring season on January 26th at the Lone Star Shootout in Frisco.  Congratulations to Samantha Hayward and Daniela Benigno for bringing home the gold in "A" girls' doubles, and to Brandon Su and Polly Roth in "B" mixed doubles.  The Leopards made the semi-finals in five out of the 10 draws, capturing two Championships, one 3rd place finish, and two 4th place finishes.



Lovejoy Wrestling
 
Middle School
The middle school men and women competed in the middle school state championships in Southlake this past weekend. There were 34 men and 6 women competing, bringing home 12 state placers, which is a new record for the program.
 
The men's team placed 4th out of 30 teams. The women's team finished 2nd out of 12 teams. Congratulations to the wrestlers, and special thanks to the parents who came out to support the teams.
 
The men were led by a strong 3rd place finish from 8th grader, Will Adams.  Adams' only loss of the season came to the eventual state champion.  The women were led by a pair of state champions, 8th grader Ella Mussleman and 7th grader Brindley Eaton.  Musselman wins her first state title after finishing as a runner-up a year ago.  Eaton's championship makes it two years in a row, the first ever Lovejoy female to win back-to-back titles, and puts her in position to wrestle for an unprecedented third straight title in 2019.

High School - Women's District 9-5A Matches
Three women competed at home on Tuesday.  Lilly Musselman, Katherine Heath, and Morgan Elvin finished a combined 5-1, with five pins. Click here for complete list of results.


High School - Princeton Duels
The team wrestled RL Turner and Princeton teams, winning the duals by a score of 48-21 and 60-6, respectively. Lovejoy finished the district dual schedule with a 4-2 record, and currently sit at 10-6 overall for the season. Gifted and Talented Referrals for 2018-2019

The referral window for gifted and talented services is now open for students in grades 1-12. The window will remain open through March 31, 2018.
 
Click here for the referral forms located online in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. All referrals must be completed in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. A line is included to type the name of the individual referring the student (parent, teacher, other educator, or student).
 
Testing is scheduled for Saturday, April 14th and 28th.

Fundraiser for Allen Community Outreach (ACO)

Please join Lovejoy Elementary 4th graders Jocelyn Chapman and Lauren Perry for the kickoff event of their business Motive8, featuring handmade jewelry and t-shirts with motivational messages. These budding entrepreneurs are also philanthropists, as they will be donating all proceeds from this event to Allen Community Outreach. Volunteers Needed for
The Frisco College Baseball Classic


The Frisco College Baseball Classic is returning to the Dr. Pepper Stadium, March 2nd - 4th. Texas A&M, Baylor, Louisiana Tech, and Cal Berkeley will be playing in a round robin tournament.
The Frisco College Baseball Classic is partnering with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for this event and is looking for volunteers to help throughout the weekend. Students in grades 8 - 12 may click here to register to volunteer.

Late Night Leopards - Campus Campouts

An exciting new event will be held at the elementary campuses this spring: Late Night Leopards - Campus Campouts. This event will accomplish two things: Campus Campouts will provide a memorable experience for the parents and students at the elementary level, and will also generate funds through business sponsors and a camp fee. The funds raised from this event will help to replace state funding lost from the last legislative session. Lovejoy ISD Pre-Kindergarten
Space Available

Our  district has offered a Pre-K program as a part of our employee daycare progr a m for the past 11 years. On the suggestion of parents, we decided to expand that program and offer a tuition-based program open to our community. We currently hav e two Pre-K classrooms open at Puster Elementary. This program offers enhancements in music, fitness, art, library, science, technology, engineering, and math. We are enthusiastic about provid
ing a Lovejoy education for community members looking for a rich learning experience which will provide a firm foundation for kindergarten and beyond.

The Lovejoy Running Club

The Lovejoy Running Club meets every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 6:00 PM near the Duck Pond at Celebration Park. All ages and ability levels are welcome to attend, from novice walkers looking to shed a few pounds, to elite runners gearing up for the next race. The Lovejoy High School Orchestra invites you to attend their pre-UIL concert on February 5th at 6:00 PM in the Lovejoy High School auditorium.


Orchestra Night at Palio's
February 6th

You are invited to the Lovejoy Orchestra for Spirit night at Palio's Pizza Café on Tuesday, February 6th from 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM. Please join the Orchestra for a great combo of delicious food and good company in support of the Lovejoy Orchestra. 15% of the proceeds will benefit the Orchestra Booster Club. When you order, please let the cashier know you are with the Lovejoy Orchestra. This includes both dine-in and take-out. The Orchestra hopes to see you there. (Palio's is located at 431 E. Stacy Road, Fairview.) 


Orchestra Valentine's Fundraiser
February 7th - 13th

The Lovejoy Orchestra Booster Club will be selling flowers and candy for Valentine's Day during lunch February 7th - 13th from 11:25 AM - 12:55 PM at Lovejoy High School. Deliveries will be made on February 14th at Lovejoy High School during 2nd and 3rd period classes. Send a Valentine to your friends. Send a Valentine to your teachers. Order a Valentine to take home to your mom. Items available for purchase include: $2 carnations, $3 roses, $1 Hershey's Kisses bag. The Orchestra Booster Club appreciates your support.

Lovejoy High School Band Mattress Sale Fundraiser
February 10th

The Lovejoy High School Band will be hosting its 1st annual Mattress Sale Fundraiser on February 10th from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM in the Lovejoy High School Band Hall.
 
Do you need to replace a bed in your home?  Know someone who does? There will be over 30 bed styles on display for customers to try.  The beds are new, brand name, made to order, available in all sizes, and cost less than retail stores.  In addition to beds, there will also be pillows, mattress protectors, sheets, and adjustable power bases.  Financing options will also be available.

24th Annual Young Masters Exhibition
February 24th-April 15th

Congratulations to the following Lovejoy High School visual art students for being selected to participate in the 24th annual Young Masters Exhibition at the Dallas Museum of Art. It is a prestigious honor for these students to have their work selected to hang among the halls of contemporary and historic masterpieces in an exhibition demonstrating the most extraordinary work created within AP Studio Art programs from ten of the areas highest performing high schools.

Lovejoy Gifted Association Rocket Launch
March 21st

3....2....1.... Blast Off.....It's Rocket Launch Time.
 
Back by popular demand, the Lovejoy Gifted Association is partnering with the Dallas Area Rocket Society (DARS) for the annual LGA Rocket Project. The Rocket Project is an extracurricular STEM activity at which your child builds a rocket one evening, then launches it another day, all with the assistance of the professionals from DARS.
 
The Lovejoy Gifted Association is a non-profit organization supporting Gifted and Talented programs across all schools in Lovejoy ISD. The Rocket Project is a fundraiser with proceeds directly benefiting Lovejoy students. If you have questions, contact Jay van Rijn .

Relay for Life: April 6

Relay for Life is an annual event which will be held at Willow Springs Middle School to raise awareness of cancer and to donate to cancer research. This year's initiative is to bring the Lovejoy community together as a whole to promote a sense of unity and caring. We hope you will save the date of April 6th and join us for Relay for Life.
 
Relay for Life Dinner
A dinner in honor of survivors, caregivers, and their families will be held in conjunction with the Relay for Life event. If this applies to you or to someone you know, please RSVP to Katherine Guo .
 
Relay for Life Stories to Share
The high school Relay for Life committee is also organizing a tribute to those who have been affected by cancer. If you have a story to share, please contact Katherine Guo .
 
Relay for Life Gallery Wall Opportunity
To encourage participation of students at the elementary and intermediate school levels, the LHS Relay for Life organizers are hosting a coloring page activity. Students may click here to print the coloring page and decorate it as creatively as they can. They may then turn the page into the receptionist desk at their campus to receive a pencil, sticker or other prize. The event organizers will use all coloring pages to create a gallery wall for the event, which will represent loving support for those whose lives have been affected by cancer.
 
Relay for Life Luminarias
Relay for Life is selling Luminarias for the Relay for Life event on April 6th at Willow Springs Middle School. Luminarias honor those whose lives have been affected by cancer. You may dedicate a Luminaria to loved ones who lost their battles with cancer, someone currently battling cancer, or anyone who has overcome cancer. When you attend the Relay event, you will see the Luminarias placed around the track, decorated with names and sometimes messages to whom they are dedicated. Luminarias are $10.
