Toronto Pearson Runway Resurfacing Spring 2018

Toronto Pearson has advised my office that they are  getting ready for the 2018 runway restoration season that will commence this spring at Toronto Pearson International Airport.

Resurfacing of runway 06L/24R  (one of the east/west runways, located in the southern area of the airport) is planned in two phases; phase one is planned for the spring,  and phase two (as required) for the fall. Phase one is anticipated to begin as early as April 23, 2018 and is expected to be completed in June 2018. This project will consist of electrical work and the milling and resurfacing of runway 06L/24R to keep the surface in top condition and ensure continued safe operations. In comparison to spring 2017's rehabilitation of the 05/23 runway, this work does not require a closure of the runway during peak hours. I have also been advise that they have scheduled the work for off-peak hours when flight traffic is lowest. The runway will be re-opened daily to enable normal operations.

There is the possibility that the north/south runways may see increased traffic between 10 p.m. and 12:00 a.m.   The preferential runway assignment will still apply to the defined nighttime hours which are 12:00 a.m. to 6:30 a.m.

This issue will be brought forward at the next CENAC meeting to be scheduled shortly where I will continue to advocate for residents of Ward 3.
