Congratulations Jane Marie Wilson!
Jane Marie Wilson of Mama Wilson's Cookies & Cakes was honored as the 2017 Small Business Person of the Year at the Chamber's Annual Banquet on October 5th.  She is the first female to receive this award.

We received 8 nominations this year, and a team of judges from Chambers and Economic Developer organizations from across the state selected the recipient.

Dalton State's 2016 Regional Economic Impact Up 13%
For the second straight year, Dalton State College posted double digit growth in its economic impact on northwest Georgia, pumping more than $136 million into the regional economy last year and supporting more than 1,500 jobs, according to a report released recently by the Georgia Board of Regents.

Federal Grant in Cohutta
The town recently received a $315,000 grant from the federal Appalachian Regional Commission. It will use that and $235,000 from the 2015 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) to extend sewer from an existing Dalton Utilities sewer line serving the nearby Pilgrim's Pride chicken hatchery to downtown and to Cohutta's central park.

Carl Campbell, executive director of the Dalton-Whitfield Joint Development Authority, says he thinks the sewer project will boost economic growth in Cohutta.

Opportunities at GNTC
Regional high school students and members of the community had a chance to speak with representatives of Georgia Northwestern's industrial programs, employers, and former GNTC students about the benefits of learning a skilled trade during Industrial Career Day on Thursday, Sept. 21.

The day, a first for GNTC, was held to expose students to the many possibilities for future employment in the skilled workforce

Georgia Economic Developers Association Workforce Panel
Brian Cooksey,  Shaw Industries Group, Inc.  and Michael Fennell,  GNTC  did a fabulous job serving as panelists at the annual Georgia Economic Developers Association Conference. They told Dalton's story and shared about Whitfield County's workforce pipeline to economic development leaders across the State.
