Another month of cold and snow - cabin fever is beginning to peak -  but there's plenty to keep you happy and entertained at the library.  Take a look at our offerings below, and remember, only 46 days until SPRING!

Lifelong Learning @ the Library

As a kid, you may have come to the library to check out books, participate in the Summer Reading Program, or work on school projects and reports.  Libraries and learning naturally went together. Even as an adult, you can still learn new things at the library.

Are you going to visit a foreign country?  Learn a new language with the Mango or Transparent Language databases that let you learn at your own pace. Trying to brush up or learn new computer, business, or technical skills? Use your library account to access classes through lynda.com, sign on to the LearningExpress database, meet with a SCORE volunteer business consultant, or take one of our computer and technology classes.  Interested in art and other creative pursuits?  Register for one of our free Hands On art classes this month, get ideas and tips from the Carver-Scott Master Gardeners, or learn about various music styles at the Vibe live music performances.

Scott County Law Library

The Scott County Law Library is offering a FREE 30 minute consultation with a volunteer family law attorney. This clinic is only for people with family law issues. These issues include divorce, custody, child support and parenting time. This clinic is NOT for persons currently represented by an attorney. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Prior Lake Library/Club Prior

Switched at Birth performs a broad repertoire of bluegrass music and includes vocals by KFAI's Pam Kolapailo.  Join us for an evening of toe tapping music featuring a unique blend of bluegrass, country, folk, and blues acoustic music.

February 17th, 1:30-3:00pm
Shakopee Library

Join us for a lively discussion with several authors from the Twin Cities chapter of Sisters in Crime.  Authors Barbara Deese, Julie Seedorf, Sherry Roberts, Jessie Chandler, and Carl Brookins will discuss their writing, and take questions from the audience.  Copies of their books will be available for purchase and signing.

Savage Library

Local poet Kayla Severson will discuss her recently-published book of poetry, Nature's First Gem is Green, part of which she wrote at the Savage Library!  

February - April
Various Libraries

Interested in trying your hand at a new art form?  Try one - or several - of our Hands On art classes.  Classes range from painting, to jewelry making, to printing, to calligraphy, and more!  These FREE classes begin in mid-February and continue into the beginning of April.  Pre-registration is required, and class size is limited.  No previous art experience is necessary.

Master Gardeners Programs

Shakopee Library & Prior Lake Library

Despite the snow and cold, spring is just around the corner!  Now is the time to start thinking about your garden, and the Carver-Scott Master Gardeners are here to help.  This month's classes will cover beginning vegetable gardening, and annuals. Please note that classes are offered at both the Shakopee and the Prior Lake Libraries on different days and at different times.

Join Scott County Library and Smalltown Eclectic as they present the Loud! at the Library open mic and art night. Discover hidden talent, in a supportive and friendly atmosphere.

The South Metro Chapter of SCORE presents FREE, confidential small business counseling, coaching and mentoring once a month. Register by calling Savage Library at 952-707-1770.

AARP Income Tax Assistance
Tuesdays, 10:00am-3:00pm
Prior Lake Library

Volunteer counselors, trained and certified by AARP will offer free tax assistance to senior adults and low-income families eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit. Counselors may assist with basic federal and state returns.

Computer & Technology Classes

Did you get a new phone for Christmas?  Still trying to figure it out?  We've got just the class for you! We will cover apps, settings, tools, and other basic functions.  Bring your phone and know your pass code to access it.  Registration is required.

What is a marketing plan and why do I need one? You will leave this class with a template for creating a marketing plan for your business or organization. Set goals and achieve them over the next 12 months. R egistration required.
