Bartleby's Books Presents
"The Full Vermonty"

Join Bartleby's Books on Saturday, February 3rd at 4pm for an event with Bill Mares, editor of

The Full Vermonty: Vermont in the Age of Trump.  Mares will read from the book, answer questions from the audience and sign copies of the book.  This event is part of the Apres-Ski After 3 program in downtown Wilmington on Saturdays in February.
The Full Vermonty is a humorous look at some Vermonters responses to Trump in the White House.  With more than 20 collaborators on the project, The Full Vermonty has assembled a first-rate "posse" of Vermont writers, cartoonists, and politicians to add their intelligence and wit to the momentous task of standing up to our rights and protecting our natural resources under the Trump Administration. In addition, the book has quizzes, quotations, escape literature, a Vermont tool box, and more--all the things necessary to flesh out this thump to The Trump.

Raised in Texas, educated at Harvard, Bill Mares has been a journalist, a high school teacher and a member of the Vermont House of Representatives. He has authored or co-authored 15 books on subjects ranging from the Marine Corps to workplace democracy to Presidential fishing, plus four books of humor with Prof. Frank Bryan, including the best-seller, Real Vermonters Don't Milk Goats. His hobbies include running, beekeeping, singing and fly-fishing. He lives in Burlington, Vermont with his wife of 45 years, Chris Hadsel. They have two sons.

For more information or to reserve a signed copy, please contact the store at 802.464.5425, [email protected] or visit myvermontbookstore.com .  Bartleby's Books is located at 17 West Main Street in historic downtown Wilmington and is open daily 10am until 6pm in winter and spring.

Bartleby's Books is hosting its annual exhibit of Nicki Steel photography for the month of February.  Beginning February 1st, Steel with be showcasing a new series "Love and Loons," as well as her popular Hearts in Nature series.  Nicki became interested in loons and learned that three decades ago Vermont had only seven pairs of nesting loons, but this past year there were ninety pairs in Vermont.  She started following a pair and a chick on Lake Raponda beginning in April and observed them from the shore, from a kayak and even swimming for more than 100 hours.

Steel's Hearts in Nature series of notecards, photo collages, matted and framed pieces, and mini-mats are always bestsellers.  There are several new images this year including new breeds of cows with hearts and a broad-tailed hawk with heart-shaped feathers on its leg.  Fans of Steel's work will have an opportunity to meet her and see a slideshow of the loons at Bartleby's on Saturday, February 10th  at 4pm as part of the Apres-Ski After Three program organized by Wilmington Works.  Come to chat and share sample chocolates from Valley Chocolates at the meet and greet event.

Bartleby's Books is open daily from 10am - 6pm and is located at 17 West Main Street in downtown Wilmington.  Please contact the store with any questions at 802.464.5425 or visit myvermontbookstore.com.

Did You Know?
The Deerfield Valley at the
New York Times Travel Trade Show!

On January 26-28, 2018 the Deerfield Valley was well represented at the New York Times Travel Trade Show. The Southern Vermont Deerfield Valley Chamber of Commerce was on hand to represent our area and tell people about all of the great events, activities, lodging, retail, and real estate we have to offer! We saw some of familiar faces who already visit our area regularly, but we meet so many new folks who learned about our Valley and plan on visiting us soon. It truly was a great opportunity to get information out about all of the great things happening here!

A very special THANK YOU to all of the local businesses and groups who provided us with materials and promotional items for the event!

The event took place at the Jacob K. Javits Center in NYC. This show had over 560+ exhibitor booths from across the globe, 30k+ travelers and industry professional attendees, 280+ travel industry speakers and experts and 100+ cultural presentations from around the world.

CommunityArts
Chamber of Commerce Community Arts Project 2018
What's All The Buzz About?

The Southern Vermont Deerfield Valley Chamber of Commerce is inviting artists of all types to participate in the 2018 Community Arts project. From painters to metal and wood crafters, all artists will be supplied with a 20" or larger circular saw blade to base their piece of art on.

Artists are encouraged to submit a sketch of their proposed piece along with a brief description and all types of media that will be used to craft the project. All proposals should be submitted to [email protected] prior to February 1. Artists and sponsors will be invited to a special "speed dating" event February 28th, 2018 to pair interested sponsors and artists.

Once sponsored artists will have until mid May to complete their sawblade. The sawblade map will be released on Memorial Day weekend and blades will be available for viewing in various locations throughout the Valley. All saw blades will go to auction during the 2018 Vermont Wine & Harvest Festival in September 2018.

Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Southern Vermont Deerfield Valley Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center and Marketing Campaigns.

Thank you to Steve England of Super Slim Saws for agreeing to sponsor our Community Arts project.
